Thats pretty cool.
Stephen Drew only one more WAR to catch Counsell at SS...(11 vs 10)
And Justin Upton is already the runaway WAR leader in Franchise history for RF with 8, Reggie Sanders a distant second with 3.
Jeez.....when you think about how some people slam the guy....how incredibly, galactically stupid they are.

Ha, I had forgotten about that series of debates. On the 2010 D Bacs, Sanders 126 would have only been the 6th highest total....lol
Of course Sanders 3.0 WAR was all put up in one season, 2001. 3 WAR is a pretty decent season, and they don't make the playoffs with Reggie on the bench all year and someone like Danny Bautista playing every day in RF. But whatever......

I was quite a DBautista fan-boy back then... The OPS+ wasn't exceptional, particularly for a RF, but he still hit .302 in '01, nothing to complain about, and was hitting .325, slugging .500, and on pace for 25HR's in 2002 before separating his right shoulder. He never fully recovered after that, hitting only about .280 his last 2 seasons.
And we don't win the World Series without Danny's rbi-double in Game 7 vs Yankees.

That's assuming all events play out as they did.
Protecting a 2-run lead, I doubt the Yankees, nor the Dbacks, play the 9th as they did. Examples would have been sacrificing delucci to 2nd base, etc., and Torre playing the IF in against Gonzo.
What does the book say about 1-run deficit vs 2-run deficits in 9th inning comebacks?

Ive got a WAR for pitchers question?
Does it take into consideration for a starting pitcher that can go 7+ innings in his starts that then allows his manager to restore order to his bullpen?

indirectly yes since innings pitched is used in a few components... but no specific bonuses for longer outings

I don't see the point of that stat, it seems like a total waste of time except maybe so that the author can say they did a lot of heavy lifting of retrosheet databases. It's like OPS but now your numbers depend on how your team does at getting on base before you.

You are all going to want to read these posts and check out the pages.
This revolution will also be an evolution. I am sure that as this data becomes more prevalent there will be more people coming out with ever better ways to slice and dice it.
But this is exciting. Have been waiting for this a while
