i agree on one point: you say he doesn't relieve starters soon enough. i see the opposite, sometimes
My point with Melvin's superior knowledge of the facts is that he should be able to make right decisions more often than not. Although it is fun to manage before the fact and second guess, Melvin should be held to a higher standards that any outside observer, including Byrnes.
Making the right decisions is Melvin's job yet posters here are right more often than Melvin. It is not necessary to say before the fact that a wrong decsion was made. You can lok at the cumulative decsions and see how often they have been wrong.
Take yesterday for example. He takes Batista out and leaves Hernandez in. Both decsions turn out to be wrong. You could say he should know that Hernandez weakens as batters face his slop more in a game. You could say he should have known to save his bullpen. But none of that is necessary to say Melvin screwed up.
With his aledged syperior knowledge he should be second guessed. The bullpen is not that bad (admittedly it is an area to address in the off season), yet is seems the pitchers don't perform when needed. Who Melvin puts him and when is something he controls and he should have sufficient information to make the right decision. If those decisions are wrong, he deserves to be criticized and eventually, please God, fired. |

According to Nick Piecoro, Conor Jackson left the first game of Saturday's doubleheader in the ninth inning with a migraine.

Did Mulholland get that ear sorted out?
This team lies all the time about injuries. Webb delivery still hasn't returned to what it was pre-elbow pain, but everything's fine! Drew's right hand started hurting right around the time Counsell returned and seems to flare up every other game. Quentin pinch-hit in a game when he was still sore from a HBP - good thing Green was there to start!
Amazing how durable Hudson, Gonzalez, and Tracy have been this season! Does Luis have a new masking agent? |

webb's delivery is looking better each time out. compare his arm angle this outing vs the one after he lost his friend. it's getting back. unless you're talking about his landing point or hip rotation -- i haven't seen him in person, so i can't really attest to that at all. but he's looking a little better from what i've seen.
but i do agree they lie about injuries. still, if there's any chance that kid has migraines, i empathize with him. they suck.

It's better but it's not back, and it's certainly not consistent. He still doesn't have his comebacker or his curveball. His sinker isn't sinking all that much, either.

Nice pics; looks like you had good seats. The first few shots appear to have more people on the field than in the stands.

Game one was VERY lightly attended! In fact, I talked to a number of Nats fans that evening who had NO idea that there was a game earlier that day. |

That might be paid attendance though... not real attendance as MG was really referring to... |

Many who had tix for the Friday night game didn't show up for the rescheduled Sat. afternoon. In fact, most who had bought tix for the Friday night game didn't even bother to show up Friday evening--the Metro was announcing game postponement 2 hours prior to scheduled time. |

If you take a look at moviegeekjn's pics from the first game, you'll see that there's no way in Hades that 22,012 attended. That had to be paid attendance. |

I thought attendance was based on how many tickets were scanned upon entry, but the Nats may have switched that number to try and make themselves look good I guess. |

The "announced" attendance is always paid attendance, I believe.
Thats why 15K can show up at a D backs game and they will announce 20K |
