Young is hurt?????????!!!!!

I'm following the game on radio (only - no TV in our area).

Brennaman reported that Young hit the wall after making a great catch to end the 5th inning, and that Byrnes was signaling for the Dbacks trainer to come out; but Young then got up and ran off, and indicated he was OK.

Byrnes was a little too eager for the trainer. Hmm...

Uh-oh... The wheels are coming off for Enrique...

Five hits (3 infield hits) have led to three runs...

Two outs and two on with a two-run lead...

Bear down, Enrique!

LET'S GO, DBACKS!!!

Just when it looked like Enrique might have had it figured out... Sad

Edgar Gonzalez gets the start on Wednesday. It would be nice to have some of these guys get it together for the '07 season... Rolling Eyes

Meanwhile, Gonzo continues to underwhelm... Evil or Very Mad

And Estrada follows suit...

Does this team know how to win?

I can't take any more of this... I'm outta here...

What a shame, they didn't pull Enrique after Miggy's ab. The only argument for, is to give enrique a positive start. I understand the reasons why not, but at some point you have to start protecting these guys, and building up their egos. Then again maybe not.

Completely pathetic. I wonder what it would be like to have 3-4-5 hitters that could actually come through in the clutch and, god forbid, even hit a homer with runners on once in a while. Evil or Very Mad

Holy cow! I left when it was 5-0 AZ and now I check in to see it's 5-8 Florida. That's 4 in a row they had won by a large margin and just gave away. Shocked

At the very least, please move Gonzette down to the lower third of the order. It's bad enough he's playing, but him batting third really shows who's running the team...(BoMel is a pussy).

DBacks are now 3-14 in their last 17 games. Didn't we see this in June right before Melvin got extended? Just a thought.

In addition to better decision making from the dugout, we could sure use some reliable pitching for next year.

Thom Brennaman and Tom Candiotti in their postgame comments emphasized that AZ is out of this race now and that there is no reason for Melvin to not be starting rookies in every position to get them experience playing against teams that are in playoff races. If everyone else, including the AZ broadcasters can see this, why doesn't the word get to Melvin?

The tired excuse of "we have to play Proven Veterans™ because we're in a pennant race" doesn't hold water anymore. Those PV's got us here. Now let the kids show us what they can do and let them get the major league experience they've earned.

are we mathematically eliminated yet? because if we still have a 0.0003% chance, then by god, we need the PVs all the more, you know?

What's with the sad faces? Another top 10 draft pick is heading toward Phoenix.

Oh that's right, Gonzo and Counsell are still starting. Jackasses.

Technically, no, we're still mathematically "in the race." According to the MLB site, our "elimination number" is 17; and from the wildcard, it is 20. That is, any combination of wins by the Doggers* and losses by the Dbacks that equals 17 puts us out of the race for the NL West; and of San Diego* wins and Dbacks losses that equals 20 puts us out of the wild card.

* based on the standings as of 9-4-06

If the Doggers (25 games remaining) split their remaining games to go 13-12, they'll finish with a record of 86-76. The Dbacks will need to go 22-3 in that period in order to tie for the NL West. (Ain't gonna happen, of course...)

As of this moment, the Pods are losing to the Rocks, and will have a mere 1/2 game lead over the Phillies for the wild card. (And if the Rocks win, they'll be tied with the Dbacks in 4th place...) The Phillies have 24 games remaining; and if they go 12-12, they'll finish 82-80. We'd have to go 18-7 to finish the season with that record. Does anyone really think we've got another month of May in us this season? (I s'pose, like J.P. says in "Angels in the Outfield," "It could happen!" But I wouldn't bet the farm on it...)

Does anyone even think we have a shot at going 81-81? That'll require a finishing run of 17-8...

OK, long-winded, I know... Final analysis: I agree with TAP, Brennaman, and Candiotti: the race is over. Time to bench the veterans and get Jackson, Quentin, Drew, Young, Montero, and whoever else has a realistic chance of making the roster in '07 as much major league experience as possible in the next four weeks.

"We've felt like we've been in it the whole time until, really, this road trip, [but] unless we go on some magical run at this point, things look pretty bleak for us," Eric Byrnes said after yet another late inning collapse today.

I was at the Nationals game vs. Cardinals (near no hitter till the ninth) and left right after Miles got a hit to break up the no-no--the scoreboard still had the Dbacks winning 5-0. But... when I saw the ESPN update on the airplane direct TV feed with the final score, I just shook my head and figured we got more of the same.

NOW.... will BoMel start to play our REAL future team. It IS over (tho that was apparent long ago)
