facetious
1592, from Fr. facétieux, from facétie "a joke," from L. facetia, from facetus "witty, elegant," of unknown origin, perhaps related to facis "torch." It implies a desire to be amusing, often intrusive or ill-timed.

This is great news. I guess you can't fire the whole team so you have to fire the coach... Good luck Mr. Schu. |

While I think the firing of Seitzer was a step in the right direction -- and all the best to you, Mr. Seitzer, in your next endeavor -- the news that his replacement is the man who was the batting coach in 2004 (51-111) is not, as far as I am concerned, cause for any great celebration.

From Steve Gilbert at mlb.com, linked earlier in this thread...
This will be Schu's second stint in the position, having previously served as hitting coach in 2004. He did not have his contract renewed at the end of that season and returned to his role as the organization's hitting coordinator. In that capacity he's worked with the team's young hitters on their rise through the system.
"I think Rick Schu has a lot of history with these guys and can get them back to the things that made them successful in the first place," Byrnes said.

In other words, Schu knows when to shut the fuck up and get out of the way

I read a few of the comments after Nick's article and was laughing my butt off. One guy said this was a mistake of "epic" proportions. OMG |

Yeah, I'm sure that now we'll win the division because they fired the hitting coach. |

So how does this affect the value of my Kevin Seitzer autographed rookie card?
Interestingly enough I got it at a weekend card show, Seitz signed on Sat and on Sun of the show I got Mark Grace's autograph on his rookie card.
Boy looking at Grace in his rookie season and now, he's definitely taken some performance dehancers during his career.

Exactly.
Was Schu the hitting coach for all of 2004 or was he part of the replacement staff? Either way, I don't expect Schu to be the hitting coach next year. He'll probably go back to being the hitting coordinator for the team.
Nice quote from JB:
Quote: |
Josh Byrnes wouldn't say whether any players had advocated the move.
“I think that sort of discussion, to the extent that it even happened, is better to remain private,” he said. |
