Can I request that people rein in the use of pictures please? There is really no point in using a large, irrelevant photo to accompany a four word post like "Nice walk by Byrnesie." This degrades the response time for all users, because the server keeps having to request pictures from other sites in order to create a page, rather than being able to pull all its information from the local database. When you've got multiple pictures on one page from multiple different sources, the issue gets compounded.
While particularly affecting those on narrowband, who still represent about 40% of Internet home users - and yes, that includes me! - hotlinking pictures is also generally regarded as very bad netiquette since you're sucking off another site's bandwidth.
Generally, if your words are not adequate in themselves, and need an illustration of a half-naked woman alongside them, then you should probably rethink your post. Thank you for your co-operation in this matter...

I've definitely been guilty in the past of posting irrelevant pics, but it has gotten out of control. I made a sarcastic post recently about it, but seriously, it gets hard to read the game day threads when there are so many pics to scroll past. Someone posts a huge pic, then someone else quotes it, which posts it again.
When I don't have a chance to watch the game, I'll read the game day thread to catch up and it's often difficult to follow. I don't see a problem with posting smaller (be conscious of the size!), pertinent pics, but the pointless ones I could do without. |

Wow, I'm going to miss FP's slide show and witty comments during the games. Oftentimes this year it's been better than the game itself. |

Dangerfield said "Come on Tracy absolve your sins here and homer" and Rachel was walking in a church so it kinda went together.
I'm still a newbie to message boards (about 5 months) . Is there another way to post pics other than hotlinking them?
I guess my pic show has been shut down.
No mas mojo.

Half the fun was half naked women. boobs, beer, baseball, the Get Hank pic, but yeah, I see the bandwidth concerns too. Just one little request, can we see a full size pic of Oden's avatar?

Let me be the first to say that I don't think anybody expects the get Hank pics to go away. They are clearly relevant... |

fp,
save the pic to your harddrive, then upload it to an image host. i use imageshack.us -- it's free. and there's an option to resize when you upload, which can make them tiny.
i used to hotlink, too. then one day, a server changed the picture i was hotlinking to a very, very disturbing one. one by one, i watched all my funny pictures turn to horror. goatse, lemonparty, tubgirl -- oh my.
(if you're unfamiliar with those, fp, do NOT gis for them. you are happier now. i remember the fair-weather days when i didn't have tubgirl etched into my retinas...)

I'm familiar with goatse and tubgirl but I've never heard of lemonparty. Is is as bad as the other two?
I second McCray's instructions, do NOT, I repeat, DO NOT even think about doing a GIS for them. |

That's like telling someone to not visualize a pink elephant. You know having been told no, you have to! |

this really is. don't do it.
matt, lemonparty is less, well, bodily orifice centric than the first two, but it's still not fun.

That's putting it mildly. At my old job, if someone left their desk without locking their computer, they'd inevitably come back to find lemonparty, tubgirl, etc. as their desktop. Few people ever did that more than once...
I'm not trying to cramp anyone's fun, and there are times when a picture is worth a thousand words. However, a link to a pic would work equally as well: that way, if someone wants to see it, it's only a click away, and it's then their choice. But think it's pretty clear after this weekend that all the half-naked babes in the world can't save this team...

I only recently learned that Google had a pic search feature from comments made on this board and fumbled through how to post the link to them.
I have no clue about what a "GIS" is.

GIS = google image search. finds pictures. check the options, and take safesearch off. because nipples are cool.

I should've listened. But I'd never seen "lemonparty" before.

There was a classic fark.com thread where someone's pic was replaced with a pic of a dude with a pickle stuck up his butt. Disturbing, but funny as hell. |

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

ahh, the "lucky charms" thread. that was back when i used to post on fark. the only really good thread i've seen in a while was one where a guy was sitting naked on a chair with wood slats for the seat, and he got pinched.
and it got stuck. to the chair. naked and frightened, he posted an advice thread.
complete with pics from his cell phone camera.
