Webb is heading to the bereavment list, therefore, will we have an extra player on hand?
Speculation anyone? |

Probably a pitcher that they were already planning on calling up. Rosters expand on the 1st so whoever gets the call will just stay on the team. |

Both aren't on the 40-man roster.
And ready to be optimistic again....if Webb goes on bereavment...is he left off of the playoff roster?

It isn't likely to be Koplove; he was DFA'd and removed from the 40-man roster (as was Choate).
Pitchers on the 40-man roster and not on the active roster are:
Bajenaru
Daigle
Gonzalez, Edgar
Nippert
Shultz
Slaten
Of the above, all are relievers, apart from Gonzalez and Nippert; and both have already pitched for the Dbacks this season (with less than stellar results). Likewise, Daigle and Bajenaru have also made appearances for the Dbacks.
Shultz is 2-4 this season, with an ERA of 3.55 and a WHIP of 1.44. He has appeared in 46 games, pitching 50.2 innings. He has given up 54 hits (1 HR) and 20 earned runs (21 total runs). He has walked 19 and struck out 38. He has 3 saves and 4 holds.
Slaten is 2-1, with an ERA of 0.47, and a WHIP of 0.84. He has appeared in 17 games, pitching 19 innings. He has given up 10 hits (0 HR) and 1 earned run (2 runs total). He has walked 6 and struck out 20. He has 1 save and 4 holds.
There are actually 37 players on the 40-man roster; so it is possible, I suppose, for Koplove to be put back on the 40-man; but how likely is that? Owings would have to be added in order to call him up.
As for the Bereavement List, isn't that usually for a period of three days? If so, Webb would come off the list before his next scheduled start.

According to this link (emphasis added):
Quote: |
A player who is grieving (due to the death of a family member or friend) can be placed on the bereavement list with league permission. He must stay on the list for at least three days and be activated within ten days. His roster spot can be filled by another player. This rule is a new part of the Basic Agreement. |

I think Koplove should be added. Why not? We are already paying him $1M, might as well try to get our money's worth |

How about, because he sucks? I don't care what we're paying him, if he isn't getting the job done, he shouldn't be here. He's gone when his contract is up at the end of the season anyway, so why not give that playing time to one of the prospects? It's not like we're going to the playoffs.

I hope they don't ever decide to apply that logic to Donut Boy.
I think you will see Edgar, Slaten, Schultz, Montero, Callaspo, and maybe one or two more.

On one note, we are really already covered as we have Cruz who could start for us.
As for Koplove, why? We seen his show and there's no future benefit to him. I'd like to give Ed Gon another shot, maybe in the pen.
Isn't Bacsik on the 40man? I know he's gone for now but won't he be available in Sept? |

We've got our $1M dollar view and already know it stinks. No use bringing him up unless we want to deliberately throw away games and not check out some lesser known prospects.

Bacsik isn't on the 40, and won't be available until after Sept. 5th

If the league allows Koplove to "go to the mouth", they'll bring him back for another try. He started sucking as soon as his balls got dry.
That all sounds dirty, but it's not. |

How about we put Enrique on "done for the season" list? |

Something Shoewizard was suggesting about a month ago, out of concern for EnGon's arm.
It'd be good if he came back next year in good health... I think he can be a decent part of the rotation.

Perfect timing for it: September call ups, pretty much out of the playoff race. |

The FO should have shut Enrique down for the season 2 starts ago. He's going to be a good pitcher for us - plus fastball, good breaking pitches, etc. We need him to be a productive and healthy member of our pitching staff for the next 3 yrs while he's cheap.
