It's absurd. We all have ideas and input about who should be playing, and where they should bat in the order. 99% of it is meaningless. (At least 99% of what I say about it is meaningless)

But in this case, using your biggest out maker as your first hitter against RHP is just CRAZY

OBP vs. RHP

Snyder .406
Davanon .383
Gonzo .382
Tracy .365
Jackson .358
Drew .352
Quentin .344
Estrada .341
Hudson .341
Counsel .328
Byrnes .295

Seriously.....how can this be happening? If you want speed at leadoff , fine, Drew, Hudson, Quentin would all be better options.

Although Jackson doesnt fit the mold of LO - i think he would get on base a ton in the leadoff position. IMO - His bad abs this year have come when he has felt pressure to drive in runners.

I wonder if putting tracy in that spot would help him as well...

It's totally illogical.

Would guess (trying to channel whatever hamsters have been turning his brain mechanism) that "speed" is a factor and that he's reluctant to put Drew at the top for fear of "putting too much pressure" on him. And he's much more likely to at least consider Drew than he would Q.

It's asinine.

I thought the only reason we still had Counsell was so he could bat leadoff? If not, Hudson wouldn't be a bad choice right now.

Byrnes leading off makes no sense at all. I don't understand why Melvin continues to bat him leadoff. His overall OBP is the lowest of any of the regular starters. Only Easley and Clark are worse.

If he had any speed whatsoever, Jackson would be the a decent leadoff hitter for this team. Drew might be a choice and if Melvin doesn't want the kid to have that pressure than Hudson would be a fine choice. Actually, Hudson might be a pretty good choice. His L/R OBP splits are .371/.344

BoMel seems to like Hudson in #2 or #7 spot (and it will take BoMel a while to adjust to batting him elsewhere--BoMel isn't the fastest afoot about changing paradigms)

i'm still trying to figure out how a guy who basically wins us the game on fri going 4-6, gets benched on Sat in favor of a buck ninety hitter, and then of course rightfully does nothing yesterday. Meanwhile Florida, and their proven vets move within 3 games of the wild-card.
