Byrnes leading off, Drew out of the line-up vs. a lefty, etc. etc. etc. etc. BoMel is frustrating. I just don't get some of his choices.

I didn't get to see the game and the offense wasn't the problem today, but just an observation. Why does Melvin keep Byrnes leading off? |
Inertia? He does have 17 of those SB thingies, those seem to be big for leadoff guys to managers.

Bummer of a game. Barring something ridiculous, that's all she wrote for the playoffs. The next 3 against LA will be interesting. Hopefully we can hang in there.

Whoops! But he was fast enough to get there. Timing can be learned, talent can't. Young, Quentin, Drew, Jackson...the future's here and it is good.

By the way...that picture is the one on CBS Sportsline...and it says he "misreads it"
I'm telling you unequivocably, the ball hit the heel of his glove......then it bounced down.....he kept flying past and to the wall and the ball dropped.
that still decieves you.
Trust me.....I watched it 6 times. |

Looks like a hell of an attempt, regardless. Can anybody else see this guy making Torii Hunter grabs for the next 3 years? I only wish we had a fence that he could climb.

I was there. Right next to the play. He had to run HARD to get there. He got there and really almost had it, like Shoe says. But he had to leap to do even that. It was almost a great, great play.
How many games has he played in ATT&T Park? How many games has he played in ANY big league park? Young is going to be f-ing awesome!!!
Plus that homerun to the deeper part of the park. Man. I can't wait until next year!!!

ROFL!!! I wasn't in the bleachers. I was along the third base side, field level. With a Diamondbacks cap.
Tuesday night's game I was with Ryan (also in a Dbacks cap and with his blonde fiance) and we were next to the left field foulpole and Barroids, a couple rows back. So there should be some shots of us, somewhere. At least on TV. I remember Bonds made a catch deep in the corner.
Monday night we were alongside the DBacks bullpen.
So: there's your clues. Will we have a winner?

You know, as bad as it was to be leading this one, only to have the Gnats take it away (or the BP give it away, depending on your perspective), it could have been much, much worse.
Consider Wednesday's game between the Cleveland Indians and the Kansas City Royals. The Royals got ten -- that's right, ten runs in the first inning (leading 10-1 at that point); and added three more in the six to take a 13-9 lead; only to give up 4 runs in the top of the ninth, and 2 more runs in the top of the tenth, to lose, 15-13.
I'm glad I wasn't watching that game -- ours are hard enough to take as it is, sometimes!

That IS bad.
I watched my beloved Cardinals demonstrate why they either are destined to fail to make the playoffs, or will be swiftly embarrassed in them Tuesday.
Albert gets them off to a great early start with a 3 run homer and grand slam at Shea, so the Cards are off to a 7-1 lead in the 5th inning. Well.. Jeff Weaver on the mound so no lead is safe, so not real surprised when the Mets counter with a Carlos Delgado slam to close the gap in the bottom of the 5th. The Mets another in the 6th but the Cards pen is holding the line.... and then they bring in Isringhausen to face the top of the order to close the game.
The only way that the inevitable Beltran walk off bomb isn't a heartbreaker is that we've experienced this deja vu many times this season.
As disheartening as the recent Dbacks losses have been, I still have MUCH more optimism about their future than I do with the Cardinals. Their farm system is pretty bare and Pujols can't play all nine positions simultaneously.

EvilJuan, I thought the same thing this afternoon when I read about that huge comeback or flameout, depending on your perspective. There is always hope, even with our perpetually crappy 1st innings! |
