The latest news from the MASH tent...
The Arizona Republic today wrote: |
Clark to start Tucson rehab stint
The Diamondbacks are close to getting another player back from the disabled list, as veteran first baseman Tony Clark is set to begin a rehab assignment today with Triple-A Tucson.
Clark, who has missed 36 games with right shoulder irritation, will get as many games as he needs with the Sidewinders before being activated and rejoining the Diamondbacks. Tucson is home against Tacoma through Sunday, and that might be all the game action he needs.
"It just depends, but if he feels comfortable after a couple games and feels like he's ready to go, then we'll pull the trigger," manager Bob Melvin said.
A magnetic resonance imaging exam showed no structural damage in Clark's shoulder, but he's had difficulty throwing and it is slowly getting better. The injury doesn't hinder his swing, Melvin said, and Clark, a switch-hitter, has had good range of motion from both sides of the plate.
Clark, who hit 30 homers and had 87 RBIs last season, is hitting .185 with five homers and 14 RBIs.
Craig Counsell almost there
Craig Counsell was able to play the past two days, but Melvin decided to keep him out of the starting lineup just to take it easy on Counsell's sore hamstring. The shortstop was activated from the disabled list Tuesday after missing more than a month with a rib fracture.
"I just want to get him going through the off day and get him past that, and then he'll be very, very close to 100 percent," Melvin said. "When he does play, I'll lead him off and need him at the top to be able to run and I don't want him to think about that."
Counsell pinch-hit in Wednesday's loss.
Johnny Estrada putting it off
Catcher Johnny Estrada won't have an endoscopy today as planned because he wants to spend a full day with his wife and children, who will be moving back to the family's home in Atlanta for the start of school.
The endoscopy was suggested after Estrada was diagnosed with a stomach ulcer, for which he already is taking daily medication.
"I'm probably going to put it off until the end of the season," Estrada said. "If I go get this thing done and they tell me I definitely do have an ulcer, all they're going to tell me is to keep taking the medicine I'm on, so I'm just going to wait."
Estrada also has changed up his diet and now is drinking decaffeinated coffee. |

That was the first thing that flashed in my brain too. That's hardly a significant adjustment.

Major "duh" for Estrada. It's the acid, not the caffeine. |

Yeah... major duh... i found this...
Quote: |
Acidity of Decaffeinated Coffee
It is well-known throughout the coffee industry that decaffeinated coffee is more acidic than regular coffee due to the fact that decaffeinated coffee is made from Robusta beans. Robusta beans are used because they retain more of the coffee flavor after the decaffeination process; Robusta beans have a higher concentration of caffeine and are more acidic than other beans. This is problematic for people with health problems such as acid reflux, GERDS and ulcers making them susceptible to the detrimental effects of high levels of acidity.7 |

I believe it's for his hypertension (high blood pressure). Part of the calming down effect they're trying to get.

Im no doctor, so they may know whats going on... but it sure doesnt make alot of sense to me... theres got to be something else he can have that could counter hypertension, other than decaf, that is very acidic... |

i had an ulcer go all wacky and bleed out once in mexico. i passed out and woke up with a scar from the surgery. the first thing the doctors told me (through a translator) was i could never again drink coffee or take aspirin.
these were doctors in mexico. they didn't even have clean drinking water, but they were still a step ahead of our professional trainers. sigh...
