The only thing getting in the way of the trade is money issues. Do you belive in miracles?

Are you clicking with the correct finger? Not sure. Try Google. Search for Shawn Green and click "News".

OMAR GETS MOTA; GREEN MAY BE NEXT

By ANDREW MARCHAND

August 21, 2006 -- While Omar Minaya added another power bullpen arm, yesterday, trading for the Indians' Guillermo Mota, the Mets' GM has also made progress in importing Shawn Green from Arizona to play right field, The Post has learned.

Green has decided to waive his no-trade clause to join the Mets if a deal can be finalized. With this huge obstacle definitively out of the way, the largest barrier separating Green from Shea now is figuring out how much of Green's contract the Diamondbacks would pay in a deal, according to sources.

Green is making $8 million this year and is due $9.5 million next season. In 2008, he has a $10 million team option. If that is not picked up, he is owed $2 million.

While Lastings Milledge has shown flashes at the plate and Endy Chavez is an above average defensive outfielder, Green's left-handed bat would lengthen the already deep Mets' lineup. Green, 33, entered yesterday hitting .283 with 11 homers and 53 RBIs.

Mota, 33, is most familiar to Mets fans for his run-ins with Mike Piazza. In back-to-back spring trainings in 2002 and 2003, Mota nailed Piazza with pitches. After being struck in 2002, Piazza grabbed Mota by the shirt collar as the reliever walked down the right field line to leave the stadium.

In 2003, an even more enraged Piazza charged the mound unsuccessfully as Mota backpedaled like a "scared rabbit," according to then-manager Art Howe in probably his only memorable quote in a Mets uniform. Later, during the game, Piazza barged into the Dodgers' clubhouse, yelling, "Where's Mota?" Mota had already left.

Mota will join the Mets tomorrow, after being acquired with cash for a player to be named later. He will come to Shea sporting some subpar numbers - 1-3 with 6.21 ERA in 34 games.

"Up until last year, he was one of the best setup man in baseball," Minaya said.

Last year, the 6-foot-4, 210-pound Mota was 2-2 with two saves and a 4.70 ERA.

Additional reporting by Joel Sherman.

(I even tried to go onto the NY Post site directly, and got an error message. MySpace, porn sites, EVERYTHING goes unfiltered through my work computer, EXCEPT the NY Post?)

Your workplace considers anything NY related to be a slime infested porn pot. Wink

Now if ONLY a return of CC could be coupled with a SG trade! (not that CC should be taking over regular full time duties)

Well that's your problem then, if you hold a mouse properly, your index finger is on the left-click button and your middle finger is on the right click button. If all you are using the middle finger, you'll just get menus and never click through on anything.

/Mac users are 'special' and need extra instructions.
//Actually, since he's a Mac user, a two-button mouse is probabably an inconceivable phenomenon.

too funny, matt. latest from ny:

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/08/22/sports/baseball/22mets.html

Quote:
The Mets have stockpiled major-league-ready pitchers, but they are almost certainly not willing to part with any in a deal for Arizona outfielder Shawn Green. The Mets are still pursuing Green, a nice complementary piece who could help if Floyd’s tendinitis lingers. They are waiting to hear how much of the $11.5 million remaining on Green’s contract the Diamondbacks would assume.

Seems like an "almost done" deal to me. Whatever amount of money goes to NY, Moorad and co. will save a bunch of money on their car insurance. Even if it's a couple of millions, that'll help pay for someone like Max Scherzer, and you cannot argue with saving money on Green to pay for the future.

Unless, of course, you're Robert S and you want Green DFAed or else... Wink
