Per ESPN Moyer was traded to the Phillies for "two minor league prospects." |

The two minor league pitchers are Andrew Baldwin (high-A) and Andrew Barb (A), and Philly also got cash to help cover the remainder of Moyer's 5.5M salary.
Sounds like a stupid deal for Philly, and a heck of a steal for Seattle. |

Phillies started playing better ball of late, and since most NL teams suck.... they legitimately feel they have a legit chance of making playoffs. Now only 2.5 behind in the Wild Card. |

And it's no wonder that so many players want off their phunny pharm (or don't even want to go there to begin a career... a la J.D. Drew) |

if i played in the majors, i wouldn't care about a no trade clause, so long as i had an agreement that i couldn't ever be traded to the phillies. those are the worst fans in history. i grew up a tigers fan, and we threw batteries at players, sure, but small ones. AA batteries and stuff. nothing above a C. but we threw them at the opposing players. phillies fans throw D batteries, and at their own players, too. craziness. |

I continually see Phillie phan absolute HATRED for Scott Rolen, who demanded to get out of Philly. Mild mannered and stoic Rolen grew up a Cardinals fan in Indiana, so it was no surprise that he didn't take to the atmosphere in Philadelphia. He absolutely loves it in St. Louis--those fans don't throw batteries or spew out epithets like the Philly phans once did to Mike Schmidt & co. |

it's so strange. i've only seen a handful of games in philly, but the vitriolic hatred a yankee gets at fenway is seriously nothing compared to the shit a phillies player gets at home.
no wonder they're pissed, though. they live in philadelphia. |

I dont think moyer sucks at all... i dont think he is great by any means either...
He gets such a rep as having such bad stuff (see 82 mph FB), but its really about results... a 4.17 ERA for carreer in the AL isnt too shabby... he does play at a pitchers park however..
my point is not that he is great either.. he just doesnt suck...

Playing in Phillys park will be an adjustment, no doubt, but he should fare better against the nL.. |

the nl will help, but moving a flyball pitcher from the mariners to the bandbox in philly is suicide.
and wait, didn't the phillie already do this at the start of this season with another seattle flyball pitcher? did they learn nothing? |

I would agree for the most part... but...
if they could set it up to have him pitch mostly away games in FLA, NYM, WASH, Pitt... i think it could work out ok...
I agree with you about philly though - im cant figure out what they are doing.. why sell on lieber, lidle, and then pick up moyer... no sense..
my point was just that moyer isnt that bad... given the right situation... |

Never wise to make sense outta Philly moves, but would guess that they are hoping Moyer can supply enough p.v. pitching presence to help them squeak into the playoffs this season... and gambling that they can trade him off next season to an equally desperate team in 2007 if he doesn't fit into whatever the hell their team needs then. |

I'm glad the D-backs would never do anything that stupid. |
