Mick, guessing that you are talking about Justin Parker.

Report on June 7 was day-to-day with a shoulder strain. Has not been placed on the DL.

One tidbit of day-old news, and one new bit.

First, Brendan Duffy was promoted to Visalia prior to Monday's game. Thanks to DaveK for the text message, as I was out of town for my day job and not at the ballpark.

Second, today Marc Krauss was added to the roster to take Duffy's spot. Krauss is a power-hitting corner infielder/corner OF from Ohio U that was drafted in the second round in the recent draft.

I am betting that Krauss makes his debut tomorrow in a doubleheader (tonight was rained out).

Listen live to the Hawks on the night of Krauss' debut online at http://southbend.silverhawks.milb.com/multimedia/audio.jsp?sid=t550 Broadcast starts at 5:10, gametime is 5:30 (eastern).

That's awesome that Krauss is there so quickly.

What's awesome is how stupid Cowgill was. Punching a wall and breaking your hand is awsomely stupid! That's why Duffy was promoted and Krauss sent to South Bend.

Word is that Justin Parker has been placed on the DL. I would look for another roster addition soon. Sometimes teams will play shorthanded in the MWL, but the fact that Parker was moved to the DL suggests that they need to make room on the active roster for a replacement.

Parker's injury is to his left (non-throwing) shoulder. He has been participating fully in infield practice from what I hear (I do not normally get to the ballpark early enough to see home infield). The shoulder just hurts him when he swings a bat.

I am hearing that Krauss is scheduled to arrive in South Bend right around gametime (5:30) tonight. I would guess that he makes his debut in game 2 of the double dip.

Quote:
Wade Miley, lhp, Diamondbacks: Arizona placed Miley, a supplemental first-round pick in 2008, on the seven-day DL with a sprained left foot. The 22-year-old lefthander has a 3.78 ERA with low Class A South Bend, racking up 52 strikeouts and 13 walks in 64 1/3 innings.

Krauss went 1 for 3 with an opposite field double and a run scored.

The more I read about him, the more I like the pick--good power, rarely strikes out, hits to all fields, decent athlete despite his size.

Sorry for the lack of postings. I am pretty much working two jobs, 1 paid, 1 unpaid Smile and although I am at the stadium half the time, I am not even watching the game.

I was on the radio for a second time and was suprised by the candor about "Change" and although Mark Kraus has hit in all 6? games he's been in a Silver Hawks uniform, the Hawks have only won one of those games. A.J. Pollock is slated to start playing with the Hawks. One other change that I found somewhat unusual, after going 7 innings allowing no runs in two games, Keny Sosa was re-assigned to Missoula.

I was writing some stuff about the current state of the Silver Hawks and wanted to point out how often some of the guys strike out. I know Ascencio does not keep his head in, he is looking to Left Field before the pitch even reaches the plate. He's got to keep his head in and the eye on the ball if he doesn't want to strike out once every 3.3 at bats.

Name AB/K Average On Base
Ascencio 3.36 0.231 0.269
Diaz 3.71 0.241 0.278
Navarro 4.61 0.227 0.298
Duffy 4.78 0.308 0.414
Marte 6.04 0.260 0.309
Elmore 6.51 0.219 0.319
Perez 10.78 0.291 0.351

and I know I am trying to analyze way too much when I report that the Hawks losing streak started on June 3rd. in my blog I wrote:

Around the same time, AJ Hinch was hired as the Arizona Manager- it was said that Mark Haley wanted to take over The Directory of Minor League Player Development from AJ Hinch but Mike Berger was hired for the position. Did that have anything to do with it? I don't know.

and I finally checked when the Silver Hawks losing streak started, it was on June 3rd. Mike Berger was hired on or around June 8th. I mean, it's probably a stretch and I analyze things way too much but if Haley vied for the position, he most likely would have known before hand, could the news he was not being promoted have anything to do with the losing streak?

It's a stretch but when you take into consideration losing 18 or 19 games, I think you have to take into consideration the players and the coaches/managers attitudes.

More next posting...

and the coaching staff.
Although I haven't noticed it as much, many people have been pointing out to me Erik Sabel is keeping his pitchers in longer, he's been slow to hook them when they are in trouble. I know at this level, they want to see how the players do in certain situations, this could be just one of those directives.

My thought on the hitting and strike out that I have pointed out in the previous message, I am noticing some simple mistakes the hitters are making and I have to wonder if Francisco Morales the hitting coach is noticing these issues as well. The only issue I have is, it does not appear these hitting fundamentals are being worked on such as Ascensio head movement during his swing.

At this point, I'd like to see these kids get the instruction they need, it really doesn't matter to me where the team ends up at the end of the season, just work on those fundamentals!

The South Bend Tribune reports that AJ Pollock will start Tuesday when he is in South Bend.
