But do the Diamondbacks make the trade for Dunn if the Dodgers do not acquire Ramirez? I think not.
And even if a Manny-less Dodger team is playing only a few dots above .500 baseball early in the 2009 season, does the Diamondback collapse still result in the firing of BoMel, despite Olney's two-year extension?
No real point in playing what-if...

LOS ANGELES (AP) - There will be no more visits by Manny Ramirez to the Los Angeles Dodgers' clubhouse during media access periods for the remainder of his 50-game suspension.
Dodgers spokesman Josh Rawitch said Wednesday the club received a "friendly reminder" on Wednesday from Pat Courtney, the No. 2 spokesman in the commissioner's office, that Ramirez wasn't allowed in the clubhouse when it is open to reporters.

Manny Ramirez is eligible to re-join the Dodgers on July 3, but because being suspended 50-games for PED use is exactly like pulling a hamstring, Manny will go on a minor league "rehab" assignment first. The Dodgers indicated that his first game could be for the Inland Empire 66ers next Thursday.

The suspended Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder tentatively is expected to join the Dodgers' Triple-A team in Albuquerque, N.M., for a four-game series starting Tuesday, the Times reported, citing baseball sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
Ramirez then will go to Class A Inland Empire for a three-game series starting June 27. Following that stint, he'll work out in Los Angeles on July 1, travel with the Dodgers to San Diego on July 2 and rejoin the lineup on July 3 against the Padres, according to the report.
Just so I understand this correctly...
When a minor league player is popped for PEDs, he's suspended and cannot play minor league baseball.
When a major league player is popped for PEDs, it's perfectly acceptable for him to play minor league baseball.
Does anyone other than myself see inconsistent application of punishment here? Following this logic, it should be okay for a minor league player that got caught cheating with PEDs to take a promotion to the major leagues and play during his suspension, as long as he doesn't play in the minor leagues.
