# Justin Upton, OF, Grade A- (He was coasting this year but should improve)
# Chris Young, OF, B+ (Should do everything except hit for average)
# Carlos Gonzalez, OF, Grade B+ (Weak plate discipline prevents A- grade)
# Miguel Montero, C, B+ (solid all-around catching prospect)
# Alberto Callaspo, 2B, B (Hits for average and fields well)
# Micah Owings, RHP, B (solid all-around pitching prospect)
# Brett Anderson, LHP, B (polished high school lefty should move quickly)
# Gerardo Parra, OF, B (not as much power as Gonzalez, but more speed and polish)
# Dustin Nippert, RHP, B- (Seems nervous in the majors)

Maybe in the 8-10 range
He could either be another Luke Hochevar or Wade Townsend.
I personally would just take the extra draft pick for not signing him. |

That was the other one I just laughed at. Ahead of Callaspo, Reynolds and Nippert.
Chris Carter at 9 is to high considering he is the definition of DH.

If Chris Carter turned out to be the next David Ortiz, would nine still be too high?

I don't think he had David Ortiz' level of production in mind when he said "DH"
Ortiz OPS+ last 4 years
Adjusted OPS+
2003 AL-144-8
2004 AL-145-5
2005 AL-161-3
2006 AL-164-3
Just think, 5 straight more years at the same level and he would almost as good as Edgar Martinez was.  |

Wow, Chris Carter and David Ortiz in the same sentence. If he does become "David Ortiz" like then he will make an American League team very happy. He needs to improve on Defense to have any kind of shot with the Dbacks because right now he makes Ortiz at 1st look like Todd Helton.

I understand and I also like Carter he has the ability to pick out pitches and with his quick hands he can punish a pitch to wherever he wants. Bat wise he is MLB ready now but here in AZ he has little chance to have a career. If he does hook on with an AL team he could easily be a .280 25 HR 100 RBI guy at some point in his career.

Oh, but shoe...the Mariners desperately needed those 28 games of Dave Hollins to cement their second place finish in 1996.
Outside of the two years he was injured/recovering (1993-94), Edgar was an OPS+ machine between 1990 and 2003.

Yeah....thats what I was getting at. As far as I'm concerned, Edgar should be a hall of famer. I hope he makes it in, I really do.
If Ortiz averages about 150-160 OPS+ for 5 more years, he will STILL be short of Edgar's accomplishments by a good 3 seasons or so.
