Don't you know who I am? I'm Jake Peavy! You can't treat me like I'm some ordinary guy! Confused

The Associated Press this morning wrote:
San Diego Padres pitcher Jake Peavy was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct Thursday at Mobile Regional Airport in Alabama.

The Mobile native was taken to the Mobile County Metro Jail shortly before 7 a.m. and was released on a $350 bond, according to the jail log.

Airport Police Chief James Kincaid would not say what led to Peavy's arrest, but told the Press-Register newspaper that "a situation presented itself and the officers involved felt like they had a situation to deal with."

Padres General Manager Kevin Towers told The Associated Press he was told that Peavy was headed for a goodwill tour of the Dominican Republic with other major league players when he double-parked to drop off his bags and was told by airport police to move his car.

"The airport police told him he couldn't park his car there and he said, 'Write me up a ticket and I'll pay for it,' " Towers said. "He was arrested."

Associated Press today wrote:
Peavy apologizes for airport conduct; charge dropped

MOBILE, Ala. -- Jake Peavy's disorderly conduct charge was dismissed after the San Diego Padres pitcher apologized for a confrontation with a security officer when he double parked to unload baseball gear at Mobile Regional Airport.

Peavy was arrested in his hometown after he parked in front of the airport entrance Jan. 4. The 25-year-old player was taking equipment on a church mission to help children in the Dominican Republic.

When the airport officer ordered the vehicle moved or be ticketed, Peavy indicated he would take the ticket. Peavy then made a comment about "a real cop" as opposed to airport security and was subsequently arrested and booked into Mobile Country Metro Jail on the misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge, District Attorney John Tyson Jr. said.

Tyson told the judge at a court hearing Thursday the decision to dismiss came "on the recommendation of the individual officer involved and the chief of airport police."

Peavy apologized personally to the officer during a meeting, his attorney, Stoney Chavers, said. Peavy apologized a second time during his court appearance.

After his release from jail on a $350 bond, Peavy completed his trip to the Dominican Republic.

I agree. If he's struggling at the airport and double parks to unload baseball supplies for less fortunate youngins and is willing to pay for a ticket, what's the big deal?

Too much drama made out of this one.

foulpole, if you double-parked at Sky Harbor Airport on a busy day, the traffic cop asked you to move, and you instead told the cop "no, just give me a ticket and I'll pay it," what do you suppose would be the result? Anybody that travels regularly knows the rules and appreciates the fact that they can get in and out without self-centered dimwits locking them in curbside.

Peavy assumed a case of celebrity entitlement.

TAP, it's not exactly Sky Harbor.

Sky Harbor serves over 35 million passengers each year.

Mobile serves 620,000/ year.

It's not the size of the airport; it's the size of the ego.

The ticket was as much for attitude as it was for the cited violation. "Officer discretion"...

Don't do the crime if you can't do the time...

This country has no one to blame for "celebrity entitlement" but itself. Celebrities (incl. sports stars) are treated like royalty and paid accordingly. Some even get away with rape and muder... not to mention drug, spouse, and every other kind of abuse. Rolling Eyes

Ok, here's a scenario. Mister X has spent his time and money gathering several bags of supplies targeted to go to less fortunate children. Upon arriving at the airport to spend more of his time and money to deliver these items personally he discovers that there are many people parked at the curb ( which apparently is allowed at Backwoods Airport as long as you don't leave you vehicle unattended )waiting on arriving passengers. He double parks and scurries to locate a luggage cart or Sky Cap and starts unloading his very generous cargo.

Up walks Barney who's a little upset because Andy took his bullet away that same morning. "Excuse me sir but you have to move you vehicle or I'll have to write you a ticket." Mr. X says "I'll just be a minute I'm almost done." Barney says "You have to move your vehicle NOW!!!" Mr. X retorts "just go ahead and write me the ticket. I'll pay it." Barney comes back with "move your vehicle now sir!!!"

Mr. X knows that there are only about 40 total flights per day at Backwoods Airport so if he misses this flight he's screwed on his connector to get to foreign country Z. He needs to get all of these bags through airport security and may need to deal with customs at the next leg of his journey. "go ahead and write me a ticket. I'll pay it." Barney says "Move you car now. I will not tell you again." Mr. X says under his breath "sheesh he's not even a real cop."

Barney slaps on the cuffs for a "disorderly conduct" charge.

Funny how much of the articles posted on this tread are dedicated to discussing the true intent of Mr. X's journey when he had his "run in with the authorities." It's also strange how the charges were dropped once Andy had a chance to talk to Barney. And even stranger that many people automatically assume that Mr. X is an ass due to this tabloid journalism.

Wow, I've never read anything so creative to justify someone's feelings of entitlement and problem with authority. And you can frame it any way you want, but that's all it is.

fp, why the fuck are you focusing so much what his destination and the purpose of the destination? That doesn't matter at all. You can even throw out the part about him being an athlete and say it was a cop telling a guy to move his car. Dude tells the cop to piss up a rope. Dude gets arrested.

That's it. Betcha that's exactly what happened.

Why should anybody be surprised at that? Unless, of course, you're a star, and expect to be treated differently...

Let's say your car was right behind Peavy's, and you were doing the same thing, and the cop told you to move along -- right after he'd given Peavy a pass to do what you both were doing -- and Peavy didn't have to comply, and you got a ticket. Justice? You'd be screaming, "Foul!" (and other things) to any and all who might listen -- and you'd be right to do so, in that set of circumstances.

It's all about the ego... and the sense of, "I'm entitled to do whatever I want to do, because I'm..."
