in the sporting news for the week of Feb 5 they break down the infield for all the teams in the MLB p. 52-53.....
they have each teams infielders and note wether or not they have "gold glove-caliber" infielders and they are noted in bold based on "over all talent"......no team has more than 2 and AZ is one of the teams.
O-Dog is one of them NO SURPRISE there (even though i and some others here were dissapointed is some of his d last year)
and the 2nd...............
CHAD TRACY???? honestly did i miss something? didnt he have 25 E last year at 3rd???? and in 2004 he had 25 E in 135 games at 3rd???
http://arizona.diamondbacks.mlb.com/stats/individual_stats_player.jsp?playerID=429710&statType=1
i hope they are basing this off of some inside knowledge that he is working his tail off at 3rd and will surprise all of us in 2007!!!!!
so my thought and question is to the DBBP memebers.....is this a rational thought? TC18 and a gold-glove together??
if this was already discussed im sorry!

Much more likely that Sporting News missed something, unless they are just comparing 3rd basemen to brick walls

Mike Schmidt errors as a full time 3B...
1974 26
1975 24
1976 21 (Gold Glove)
1977 19 (Gold Glove)
1978 16 (Gold Glove)
1979 23 (Gold Glove)
1980 27 (Gold Glove)
1981 15 (Gold Glove)
1982 23 (Gold Glove)
1983 19 (Gold Glove)
1984 26 (Gold Glove)
Seems to me he was regarded as a pretty decent fielder. And with 50 errors in his first two full seasons, Tracy is right on Schmidt's pace

i will take that glove pace if he gets on his batting pace also!

Errors were called differently back then. If you go back through history, the amount of errors charged to fielders has steadily dropped.
Schmidt Fld %, .955, League fielding % .949
Tracy Fld % .935, League Fielding % .955
