I think Schilling's 100% right about being worth more after this season. Granted you discount fair market value a little bit for the risk that you won't be as good in a year as you are now, but if teams could sign up now for a 13MM contract on Schilling for 08, they'd line up.

Of course, this assumes that Schilling will still be an effective frontline starter after this season.

I'm saying that teams would line up right now to pay him 13MM for 08.

It's difficult predicting the fall off of great pitchers <as we've discussed re RJ>, but if Schilling were a FA this year he could get over 16MM <compared to what Pettitte got from the Yanks>. My bet is that Schilling puts up better numbers in 07 than Pettitte did in 06 and that's not even taking into account that Schilling was and will be pitching in the ALE vs the NLC.
