In the interests of full disclosure, I think I know what it might have been. After 75 biggerunit1 posts, without anything positive to say about the organization, I created a special rank for him, Designated Hater, as a sardonic, temporary comment on his relentless negativity.
He didn't seem to like it very much. 
But nuking him for his reaction was entirely justified, especially given he'd been warned about his conduct less that 24 hours before. As noted above, both TAP and I went for the erase button, independently, the moment we saw his post, so it's not a vendetta. I'm hard pushed to say it's any loss for the forum, but I'll unlock this thread in case any member wants to step up and defend biggerunit1, or criticize me for my actions.

The truth is he just does not really want to be a part of this community.
Clearly the purpose was to disrupt and sow discord. He accomplished his mission, albeit temporarily. The reason this board was set up was so that there would be some measure of control to keep that from happening. I wouldn't sweat the details.
I think we should all just put this chapter behind us and move on.
I wouldn't just lock, I would delete this thread, and just forget he ever existed. |

I would hate to have people who are new to the site to have that be basically the first thing they see...
I am fine with what the majority decides is appropriate...

Done. I think the thread should remain, as a warning to anyone else who decides they are above the standards of behavior requested from users here. The equivalent of a head on a spike at the city gates, if you like. As such, I also think the 'Site Info' section might be the best place for it, but I'm open to persuasion otherwise.

I think it's almost beyond question that you should leave undisturbed what he wrote and also what was written in response. Otherwise he can always complain that he was treated unfairly, that this Board is unfair and autocratic, yadda, yadda yadda.
Additionally, I would not have deleted the post for which you booted his sorry ass. It not only speaks for itself as to why he was booted, but creates a deterrent to other similar trolls - that the terrible things they say will remain long after they are gone and will continue to taint their reputations (such as they are).
I fully appreciate the fact that these types of posts are offensive and hurt peoples' feelings, but to pretend - like an ostrich - that these types of things do not happen or exist, only serves to perpetuate them. |
