I was playfully nitpicking when I pointed out the typo. Trying to be funny like Levski. Looks like I failed again. |

shoe, no problem. I didn't mean my post to sound ticked off. As you correctly note, I get confuzed at times so I wanted to be on the same page.
While lev is a fine exemplar for many things, I am not sure he should be a role model for posting style. |

IMO, Mulder & Hudson had a higher trade value at the point of their trade than Haren has now,
I disagree with this. The key to trades now-a-days is contract. |
I agree, which is why I continued on saying "but that is countered with the upward spike in the cost of pitching." Pre-comma I was saying that Mulder & Hudson were better pitchers at the time than Haren is now, post-comma I was saying that was negated by the value of Haren's contract. After re-reading I can see where that may have not been as clear as I was intending.

This has been the whole reason that I've been so set on this kid. We have Webb for 4 more years on the cheap and this guy has a 4 year cheap contract.
I don't think he's an ACE by any stretch, but I think you could expect 4 years of solid pitching in the #3 hole from the guy and would have enough money left over to find a solid #2 each year. This is why I think a team in our financial condition should be targeting this guy.

If the key is indeed contracts, then there's no way that Oakland trades Haren until he's much closer to FA. As people have correctly pointed out, Mulder and Hudson were on the verge of coming into some big paydays, precisely the time when the A's choose to cut and run. With Haren under the team's control for relatively cheap, there is absolutely no motivation for them to trade him. |

When I first jumped on my "get Haren" quest a while ago it was as a result of seeing his name pop up in a few trade rumors <I think we were even involved in one, I think it was Chad Tracy ++>.
I agree, though, they'd be crazy to get rid of him. |

Apparently Haren isn't untouchable. What would a similar talent package from the D-Backs be ILO the Mets Heilman, Milledge offerings?

Mets Still Trying For Dan Haren?
UPDATE: Spoke to my Mets source, and he indicated that the below trade possibility could be expanded to include Michael Devaney and Santiago Castilla.
According to a Bay Area official speaking to Gotham Baseball, the Mets and A's "are finally discussing a deal that could send right-hander Danny Haren to the Mets in return for Aaron Heilman, Lastings Milledge and a minor league pitcher."
Gotham's source goes on to say that the A's would prefer to put Joe Blanton in that deal instead but the Mets are holding out for Haren. Can Omar Minaya and Billy Beane find common ground here?

I know I stand alone here, but I'd likely do that deal then flip L Hernandez for prospects <and dump his salary>. |
