I'd like to paste an excel spreadsheet into a message here. It is my projections for the season.

Just pasting them and putting "code" around it doesn't work.

Can anyone help me? Either give me detailed instructions, and if I can't get it to work, perhaps I could e mail the spread sheet to you to help me out??

There may be an easier way to do it but they way I do it is to copy hte sheet into a txt file and then go on each column to make sure the spaces are right. It may look correct right away but you need to have the spacing correct.

I have also been majorly frustrated trying to go direct from Excel. Matt's suggestion has worked for me; but it's still a lot more work than it should be...

Hey, Jim/Admin, and TAP: I know that other types of groups (such as the ones at Yahoo) have a "Files" section where information can be uploaded so that those interested can access/download it. Is that a possibility here?

a txt file....like a word document or something?

I am trying to have to avoid spending tons of time manually fixing the spacing...kind of defeats the purpose.

No, more primitive than a Word document.

You can use MS Word to create such a document; but you must save it as a ".txt" file. It's easier to import the Excel file into a new file in Wordpad or Notepad (text editor programs), which save files as .txt files. Then, you can copy these into a dialog box here at the DBBP, using the "code" command. However, you're still going to have to do some tweaking if the columns...

If you're using XP, click Start>All Programs> Accessories; and then scroll down to find Notepad and Wordpad...

A txt file is a plain text file. You can save word documents as plain text or you can just right click and choose create new file and select plain text file from the list.

That's the only way I know of here. It sucks and its a pain in the ass but that's my only way.

I dont know anything really about adding objects to this board but...

If you copy and paste it into microsoft paint (comes standard on any office machine) it can be saved as a picture. Not sure if thats easier. If you figure it out though let me know cause I have some projections coming soon.

That could be the easiest route. Then put it into photobucket and post here as a pic.

Here's a test run of a small Excel file I have on my system from last season:

So it works, after a fashion. You'll need a place (such as ImageShack) to host the resulting file; and then post to its direct link via the [ img ] function.

screw it....too difficult, too much work. The images don't look good....come out too small to read properly.

If anyone would like to see the projections, give me your e mail via PM and I'll e mail them to you in an attachment. If you have a way to get them on the board so they look good, I will be grateful.

Shoe, the projections are in the "Another 2007 D-Back Projection" thread in the "Team News" forum.

If HTML was enabled on the board, you can export Excel to HTML, then post the source. This might be something for our Admin to see if feasible or not.

Thanks Evil Juan.

Your proficiency makes me feel secure that the board is in good hands with fantastic moderators.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll give it a try.

No real proficiency -- just a wild tendency to experiment. Hey, if it doesn't blow up or crash the board, it's a success, right? Very Happy But thank you for the praise, of which I am unworthy.

I've created an FTP user "bullpen", which can upload to the "files" directory here. So if you uploaded a file called "projections.xls", the address for it then would be: http://diamondbacksbullpen.org/files/projections.xls. Don't want to provide the password here, but PM me and I'll reply with it.

I'll also try and work on a nice interface anyone can use, without needing an FTP program...
