the dbacks recently signed dee brown, lf, and merrill jr., ss, to minor league deals. i reckon both of them will see playing time in tucson next year.
also, i'd put reynolds at 3b and see if he's got enough glove there to potentially be viewed az's answer at 3b if tracy struggles again or is traded. |
Yeah forgot about whom we just signed. Just got the new roster updates e-mailed to me. And they have Dee Brown listed as Devin Brown and Ronald Merill Jr so I assume those are the guys.

Just curious, what is CGon doing in RF?
Plus, I think Barden will be on the Dbacks roster in 07, along with Callaspo

I should have been paying more attention to what I was doing. Damn I didn't notice that about CGon.

So are you thinking that we'll carry 11 pitchers and Barden snags the last roster spot?

If RJ and Livan are healthy, I do think the Dbacks will go with 11 pitchers. You can do the numbers.
Next year, they'll need that extra bat off the bench a lot more than they'll need that final reliever.

I'm thinking that we will go with 11 pitchers. Just wasn't sure if you were as well.
Got any links to Barden scouting reports?

Barden is a weird cat. Ks too much, doesn't walk much, but has decent power. I can see him taking the "next step" like Uggla did and hitting 20+ homers with .280 batting average.
He's excellent defensively at 3b, can play SS or 2b as well. Probably is AZ's best defensive 3bman. I'd say, based on their 2006 defensive stats, he could be worth a couple of wins with the glove over Tracy.
Incidentally, he's got reversed platoon splits; that's really strange and quite annoying if you're trying to platoon him. For a right handed hitter, he cannot hit lefties worth a damn. Am not sure if that's just a 2006 abberation or if it's always been the case. He did have the reverse platoon splits in AAA AND in Mexico this winter, so there might be something there.
All in all, I don't think the Dbacks would lose that much overall if they got an offer they couldn't refuse for Chad Tracy, and just went with a Barden/Hammock platoon at 3b. In fact, that might be an overall improvement of a couple of wins over Tracy.

I agree 100%, I see a lot of Dan Uggla in Barden. Barden has tons of power for the people that have been to TEP on July 18th he hit a Ryan Meaux pitch over the Clubhouse in CF toward Ajo Way.
