Waste more money, Colletti.
I'm not too worried.

Not long-term financially.

He's a free agent at the end of the year and he'll only cost a couple million. It does nothing to handicap them. |

It depends on what they gave up. Colletti has been a bit free and easy with giving up young pieces this year. Certainly he's a decent replacement for Penny.
And why was my thread moved from "Team News"? Isn't our biggest rival making a significant acquisition news that is of interest to our team? It's not like everyone reads both forums...

I didn't move it, but it looks appropriate to me. The reason for the Rest of the West forum is for talk specifically about the Rockies, Padres, Giants and the other team. And if anyone is not reading the other forums, you're not getting your money's worth.

Expand your horizons; you'll find there are interesting threads in other areas.
This is Dodgers news. Stretched far enough, everything in baseball "is of interest to our team." And Team News is exactly where 90% of new posts would go if we didn't keep the board organized and readable.
Enjoy.

I'm somewhat surprised that Maddux made it through the waiver process. Everyone seemed to know that the only team he'd waive the no-trade for was LA, so I would've thought that Colorado (who still think they're in the race) would've blocked it. Obviously, with LA's record, no other contender in the NL (except maybe FL, and it wouldn't have seemed necessary for them to block it) would have been able to claim him before LA. Maybe CO isn't (quite) as delusional as I thought... |

I'd love to see Towers and DePo work Colletti over in this deal. A really solid prospect as return would be ideal.

For some reason I feel this will only make them better. All of the sudden Maddux has a hot offense behind him - the opposition is going to get some some gnarly pitching.

From Rotoworld:
Aug. 19 - 5:25 pm et
Dodgers acquired RHP Greg Maddux for two players to be named later or cash considerations from the San Diego Padres.
Maddux was 6-3 with a 3.30 ERA in 12 starts with the Dodgers in the second half of 2006. So far this year, he's 6-9 with a 3.99 ERA for the Padres, but that comes with a 5.75 ERA outside of Petco.

Two players? This sounds juicy. We know it can't be cash considerations, that's for sure. Of course the rule about PTBNL usually being low level scrubs isn't always true as the Dunn trade has shown.

The only difference for Maddux is that there is no notion of getting good draft picks - as Maddux is prob going to retire. It makes his value less.

Except, perhaps, when in Philadelphia...
The Phillies are my second team; so it's all the more enjoyable when they beat the Doggers...
