Yahoo Sports

7 years....avg. annual rate 18 million.

As mentioned in other threads....Zito was one of the luckiest pitchers in the majors last year. But he is durable and will still be in a pitchers park in the NL. This will help the Giants in 2007-2008....beyond that, tough to tell.....

Wow, that's a lot of money for a long time. This makes the Matzuka deal look great.

Now they have Zito locked up til he is an old man so he will fit in with the rest of the team. This offseason and the money keeps getting crazier.

7 years, damn... That's a lot of cake. I'll take him in roto in that park, but not for 7 years. I love the Giants.

When Zito starts backdooring his curve, its prison sex. now that said, the Tigers going gap to gap, and one bad call, got him lit, and exposed him. That's the way to get him. With Cj, Cq, and Snyder, and Zito's ability to hang 1 pitch an inning, and a stacked right-hand line-up, I tink its not that big a deal to us. Cq appears to like the backdoor from lefties, and Cj, well, he feasts on it. We'll own him.

I actually like this deal for the Giants, considering there MO in free agency is going after guys who are 35+. Is it too much money? Yes, absolutely. But with Matthews Jr. getting 5/50, I'd rather have Zito at this price and length.

That said, Zito for Schmidt is a lateral move, and the Giants front office is still the worst in baseball after Seattle and possibly KC.

I havent chimed in on us getting RJ back yet but if you ask me who Id rather have, zito at 18m a year for the next 7 or RJ for 1 year at 19 I dont see the point in zito. Outside of the fact he would start the season healthy, the giants and basically any team looking to add a pitcher are more likely trying to get a pitcher for the next two years but giving the long term money cause its the only way to get him. It seems like youre wasting 90 million in my opinion.

Horrible deal. It doesnt even lock in the NL west for the gnats really

Agreed. I still think they're the worst team in the division. But for the Giants standard, this is a good move. Usually they'd be courting David Wells right now for a 2 yr/30 M.

Quote:

Barry Zito will get a full no-trade clause under the terms of his seven-year, $126 million contract with the Giants.
The option for an eighth year at $18 million kicks in if Zito throws 200 innings in 2013, 400 innings in 2012-13 or 600 innings in 2011-13. There's a $7 million buyout for the option, so Zito is due a paltry $137 million if it's picked up.

LOL at the pic.

It sucks that the Giants are less likely to trade within the division.

We coulda used a Liriano/Nathan/Bonser trade for Estrada.

Penny and Capuano were a different regime. Bringing up Suppan is ridiculous. What is your point about El Duque? Cintron was a good move, he's a horrible baseball player. Uggla, I need to see more than one solid year.

The Sexson deal was bad, but our GM back then wasn't a good one. That said, with as bad as that deal was, it won't even come close to touching the Pierzynski trade that Sabean made.

We fired our bad GM, lets hope the Giants never do.

I like Zito (well used to ... can't pull for any Giants), but 7 years. Wow! So when does this deal start looking bad for the Giants? 2010? 2011?

Hey EvilJuan,
This post was reason for my reply.

I am no Troll. I am a Giants fan and this board is for the rest of the NL teams. When people spew and poke fun at your team, you think it's trolling.

It's talk. We aren't players! I admit to not being up-to-date on the DBacks. With time, I will visit those boards, but not until I am more educated on your team.
