7 years 126 million according to ESPN = out to 18 million a year and he is thinking about it!

I'd think about it too. For about 10 seconds while I bust a nut on my agent's paperwork. This is absolutely insane. I guess it's a good year to stay out of the free agent fray after all.

No kidding.

There is just no way I chance breaking a leg or something before I sign THAT deal.

Unless he just really really hates living in Toronto.

How good does all of this make the Chris Young trade look. I know he's no Vernon Wells <now>, but at 380k in this market, wow.

Ya think?

The point is how much more does he need? He is getting 18 million per.

Maybe next year he gets 20 million per, but the risk is injury or poor performance reduces that amount.

What if last year was his career year?

I'm not saying he will get more money or he needs more. I'm saying that seeing what everyone else is getting this year he thinks he is worth more.

How great does that Beltran contract look now? Crazy. Jones, Hunter, and Cameron are all potential FAs next year.

Vernon needs to pull a Steve Miller Band.

FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal reports that the Blue Jays and Vernon Wells are close to agreeing to a seven-year, $126 million contract extension.

With a complete no trade clause to boot. That seems like job security to me. I am sorry but what is an extra 2M per year when you are already making 18 a year. Plus he can veto any trade to a team he doesn't want to play for. Seems to me the risk of injury/market decline is to big of a gamble to take for a possible 2M raise.

it's a done deal

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/6276146

this is good news for az, as there was a very good chance he would've ended up in LA if the jays couldn't sign him

I saw a spot on mlb4u.com where they'd indicated that the Dodgers are looking to trade Penny for hitting. Hopefully they let Bavasi broker the deal for them.
