If you give me 10 to 1 odds, I'll bet on Steve Carlton having a better year than RJ in 2007.

Define "better" in this context before I give any odds. Cool

With Pettite now on board, it looks like if they sign Igawa that either RJ or Pavano is out.

My guess is this either makes the Igawa signing less likely or a opens a trade opportunity for them to drop Pavano. Hell in this market they'll likely get Pujols for him Laughing

I doubt RJ is going anyone, but I'd take a flier on Pavano... If anything, the guy will spend his entire time on the DL so insurance will pay for his salary.

I also doubt RJ is going anywhere. =1&orderBy=fip&direction=ASC&page=1]His fIP last year was 4.37. He had a 172/60 ratio in 205 ip. He is now 20 wins away from 300, which sounded like it was a big deal to him when he was here.

He will be 43, but I'd still look for an improvement next year. A 4.37 era for 205 ip is worth maybe 10M in this market.

Wow Pavano's remaining contract is up there 23MM over the next 2 yr <including his 2MM buyout>.

This is definitely the market for the Yankees to dump Pavano.

Pavano could be really good in AZ if he's able to stay healthy. The warm, dry air should help with that. Can't keep him in a padded cell, but his arm hasn't had a lot of stress over the last couple of years, so he's a good candidate for a comeback. And his price can't get any lower.
