With Randy Wolf reportedly choosing to head to the Dodgers after Diamondbacks' interest cooled off after acquiring Doug Davis (check mlb.mlb.com), the bidding ends today and Kei Igawa might be in the folds.

Also, like what Kris said in the other thread, I think we should sign Davis, Hernandez, Vizcaino, and Hudson to an multi-year extension. Probably 3 years/$21 million for Doug and Livan and 3years/18 million for Luis and Orlando. Trading Byrnes seems logical at this point. Maybe we could use Hairston or acquire a true cleanup hitter.

I'd have to think a lot more about the contracts you presented. Davis and Hudson would probably be worth it, but I'm not sure about Hernandez. I agree with Shoewizard about Vizquieno. I think that's way too much monry to give a set up guy, even a very good one.

As I mentioned in another thread, if Ted Lilly gets four years, $34-$36 M from someone, there's no way you'll be able to keep Davis for 3/$21 M.

There's likely going to be run on some guys with huge overpayment until the big spenders decide they've spent enough money. After that, some of the players left will have to settle for less. Maybe that's when the Diamondbacks could step in and get a free agent at a more reasonable price. As far as Davis goes, I take Josh Byrnes at his word. There is no way he gets signed by Arizona longterm at really big bucks. There is a decent chance he and Levon Herhandez are only at Arizona this year and then go elsewhere as free agents the following year to be replaced by other pitchers that Josh picks up more reasonably or by young pitchers the Diamondbacks already have who will have stepped up in the games.

The 3-year, $21MM seems like a possibility if they tear up the final arbitration year. From what I've read, he'll probably garner $5MM or so in arbitration this season.

And of course, don't forget that he resides in the Valley. Possible HTD.

I personally feel that should be close to getting things done. At this point, the ball is really in Davis' court to perform and justify anything more. He's the one coming off a poor season (by his standards) so JB is right to be patient in extending him.

Scratch Wolf off the list:

According to SI.com, the Dodgers and Randy Wolf have agreed to a one-year, $8 million contract.
A $9 million option for 2008 is also believed to be included. Wolf probably could have gotten $20 million over three years elsewhere, but he preferred to head home to Southern California and maybe try the market again in a year. It's a nice signing for the Dodgers.

One year rental unless that stuff about SoCal is true. He does good then gets more as a FA. Plenty of teams within spitting distance of SoCal that'll give him the dough. I wonder if Chase Filed had any impact on this contract year decision?

Wolf went to LA for personal reasons and took less guaranteed money, and I have to believe that Davis wants to be Diamondback for awhile he'll give the team a HTD for a three year contract. Even with the HTD, he won't just give his services away. It would not be a deep discount.
