Carlos Lee-OF- Rangers Nov. 24 - 3:00 pm et

According to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal, Carlos Lee's six-year deal with the Astros is worth $100 million and contains full no-trade protection for the first four years.

He'll have a limited no-trade clause after that. Like pretty much every other contract agreed to so far this winter, this is going to look pretty bad during the second half of the deal. The Astros get the big bat they insisted that they needed, but they're still going to be terrible offensively at two spots (catcher and shortstop) and likely below average at two more (second base and center field). They're going to have to get at least one of Roger Clemens and Andy Pettitte back if they expect to contend.

are the astros really this stupid? he's thirty years old, and already probably around 270lbs. he's not aging well, and so they sign him until he's 36? for 16.6M/yr? and he's got a full NTC to cover the only time when he might resemble something similar to a decent ballplayer? but that's a-okay, surely they can trade him when he's a 35year old tub of goo making 16.6M a year.

what's the over/under on when they have to move him over to 1b? i'm betting by the next offseason, they'll be trying him out over there. the guy's a DH. why can't they see that?

this market is seriously crazy.

Damn Astros. They're pretty much my tertiary team. What are they thinking giving him 6 years? His last name doesn't even begin with a B.

I can't wait to see the first major pitching deal. "Schmidt to the Mariners 7 years 120MM"

Worse thing about the contract is the limited no-trade clause. You think teams would pay attention to the problems the Padres and Rangers had with the Ryan Klesko and Chan Ho Park contracts the past couple of years.
