hey, i posted this over at the mlb board, but i'm trying to fill in some of the blanks here.

-------------------

i also wanted to look at the team valuation trends, from 1998 to the present. each forbe's eval actually looks at the numbers from the previous year -- that is, the 2006 forbe's eval looks at 2005's team. the 2006 forbe's evaluation isn't out yet, but look this still gives us a better insight into the team's fiscal obligations.

also, there are various values in different years which i couldn't find -- if anyone can find those, that'd be a great help.

* team value (change of value):
- 1998: $130M (couldn't find an official evaluation of worth, so i used the purchase value -- is that right?)
- 1999: $291M (+224%)
- 2000: $245M (-16%)
- 2001: $280M (+14%)
- 2002: $269M (-1%)
- 2003: $276M (+3%)
- 2004: $286M (+3%)
- 2005: $305M (+7%)

(as you can see, after the WS our franchise hid a dead zone, where the team value didn't improve by much -- but that's been improved somewhat recently.)

* team revenue
- 1998: (couldn't find data)
- 1999: (couldn't find data)
- 2000: (couldn't find data)
- 2001: $127M
- 2002: $122M
- 2003: $126M
- 2004: $136M
- 2005: $145M

(obviously, some of this must be inflation driven -- but once more, the team is improving. increased revenue last year under the new FO.)

* team operating income:
- 1998: (couldn't find data)
- 1999: (couldn't find data)
- 2000: (couldn't find data)
- 2001: -$3.9M
- 2002: -$22.2M
- 2003: -$15.2M
- 2004: -$18.7M
- 2005: +$21.8M

(as you can see, this team FINALLY got back into the black. i hadn't realized how bad the earlier bad times were financially.)

* team debt/value ratio:
- 1998: (couldn't find data)
- 1999: (couldn't find data)
- 2000: 63%
- 2001: 81%
- 2002: 104%
- 2003: 109%
- 2004: 103%
- 2005: 79%

(the debt is being paid down, and that's what's holding our payroll so low. but the team is making good improvements in this area, though i'm still wondering WHEN exactly they'll be able to boost payroll.)

* team gate receipts:
- 1998: (couldn't find data)
- 1999: (couldn't find data)
- 2000: (couldn't find data)
- 2001: $47M
- 2002: $48M
- 2003: $46M
- 2004: $45M
- 2005: $43M

if anyone can help fill in some of those numbers, that'd be great. thanks. also, "beer connoisseur" / "sacrablue" is looking for actual numbers on the tv revenues -- anyone have those handy?
