Here is a recent article of fielding stats.
The quesion I have concerns Jeter. The chart shows Jeter to be weak on ball in the 3b/ss hole. In fcat, that is the only area he is signifigantly weak in on gb's.
To be fair, don't you have to look at the balls the 3b got to? The charts aren't very good IMO as to where each position is, but it looks like Arod is much better at getting to these balls than other 3b's. Am I reading this right. Is positioning the answer to Jeter's perceived weakness by the stats?
So it's been argued before, but it's a chicken egg. Does Jeter's known inability to cover his right mean the NYY position the 3B over more leading to the BIP distribution? This has been with several 3B: Brosius, Ventura, A-Rod (I don't know about Boone)
