Oh yeah, forgot to mention, according to Boots Day, the rockies are trying to sign Jennings to a long term contract extension and are leaning towards picking up Kim's option. |
trying and succeeding are different things. if they fail, they probably will trade him...
picking up kim's option isn't a very difficult decision, really...

A factoid that may interest only me:
A few years ago, the A's de facto traded Bonderman for Bobby Kielty.

Just to put the "Bonderman for Montero" question into some sort of perspective:
Quote: |
Jarrod Saltalamacchia-C- Braves Nov. 6 - 8:06 am et
The Detroit News speculated that Jarrod Saltalamacchia could be pried out of the Braves' system for pitcher Jordan Tata.
We find that extremely hard to believe, especially with the Braves not exactly hurting for rotation candidates. The Tigers will soon be seeking a catcher they can groom to be Ivan Rodriguez's successor and it's expected they will use pitching to acquire it. |
Jordan Tata
Jarrod Saltamacchia
Both projects in the works, and Montero is clearly superior than Saltalamacchia right now.*
Bonderman superior? No.
Would Detroit be interested in Montero? Looks like it. Who could Josh pry away from them?
*Caveat: Saltalamacchia is almost two years younger and struggled at AA Mississippi this year. Same thing happened to Montero at AA Tenessee then he went down to Lancaster and exploded. Someone with a better handle on this stuff can tell me who projects higher? Regardless, Montero is either ready now or close to it.

What would you rather have, a long last name or some Tata's? I prefer the boobies. |

You can't stop Tata. You can only hope to contain him (them). |

We'll have to wait and see whether or not the Tigers say "ta-ta" to Tata...

So you are saying that Montero is not good enough to get Bonderman, even though they need a catcher to replace Pudge after 2007.
Got it.
Nice Dodge of the question though.
Would you make the trade? If offered?
(Of course it's moot, as is every post you made in this thread as well) |
I think Montero is the throw in to get Bonderman, at least in the Tigers eyes. We would need to come up with an impact player PLUS Montero to get Bonderman. But, if we trimmed the fat = Estrada , Byrnes, Valverde, etc., we could come up with enough prospects to match up with a third team looking to shed somebody in a deal.

yeah, if you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit.
why do people think that other teams are gung ho to take on your trash?

you know, David, I too can entertain a fanboyish fantast for as long as my Cialis will allow me, but there comes a time to draw a line in the sand and eliminate one of the Survivor guys. it just had to be done... |

My trash? Hey, I ain't the one that started the whole Bonderman for Montero thread. And since Levski is the king of obvious ("trying and succeeding are different things" (Forgot to mention how astute that was)), what are the deals going to be?
Estrada, Byrnes, and Hudson had good years, can't figure how you're referring to them as trash. They don't fit with our present model, but they would easily fit into other teams plans.
But either way, eff both of you for making Survivor references on the board. The whole voting someone off the island thing was funny about four years ago. Let pop culture die.

And that's after I stated Bonderman was obviously too much. It was kind of rhetorical.
My whole point was look at what they were offering for Saltalamacchia. That's probably along the lines of what they'd offer for Montero.
And, of course, in response I got "tata" jokes.
Speaking for myself, I was trying to be a realist, not a "fantast" (good word, Levski), unless you meant it in the visionary sense, ie. I was envisioning this discussion becoming relevant again.

Yeah, and look at what Estrada was dealt for last year, and what we should be able to get for him this year.

I never watch Survivor.
Maybe trash was too harsh of a word. I think Detroit is looking for quality, not quantity.
There, feel better? |

Your original post was:

Now, Hudson and Valverde aren't trash. Estrada and Byrnes are very overrated. And should be traded. But they won't get you Bonderman.

Listen, I don't mind being called names. It's par for message boards. I do mind this endless string of ridiculous trade proposals followed by heated justifications of why those ridiculous trade proposals aren't ridiculous.
I know baseball boards are for bs-ing, but I really would've thought this montero for bonderman thread would've died 75 posts ago

Just for the record, I proposed Eric Byrnes AND Montero, not Montero by himself. Its there in post 1. |

I think Byrnes and Estrada are prime drop-off candidates, but not overrated based on production this year. They both had bounce back years. And no, Byrnes and Montero would never bring Bonderman back.

I more meant why you were being one, didn't say you were one. But if you want to be the message board nazi, you are one. Don't like the ridiculous off-season trade talk? Don't participate. It's not like we fret over whether you're here or not.

Obviously, you don't understand park factors.

That wasn't difficult; they both sucked last year.

Agreed.
The reality is, Estrada is overrated. His production will easily be replicated and actually exceeded by Montero/Snyder platoon next year. And Byrnes is too, but because of his ability to play CF, he's acceptable. He should not be a starting left-fielder on any team with a self-respecting GM
