i don't understand the poll. here's my rundown of who is on the team:
25 man roster:
STARTING PITCHING (5):
Brandon Webb
Livan Hernandez
Edgar Gonzalez
Enrique Gonzalez
Clardio Vargas
RELIEF PITCHING (7):
Greg Aquino
Brandon Lyon
Tony Pena
Mike Schultz
Doug Slaten
Jose Valverde
Luis Vizcaino
POSITION PLAYERS (10):
Catcher:
Miguel Montero
Chris Snyder
1B:
Conor Jackson
2B:
Orlando Hudson
3B:
Chad Tracy
SS:
Stephen Drew
OF:
Eric Byrnes
Jeff Davanon
Chris Young
Carlos Quentin
Bench (3):
Robby Hammock
Alberto Callaspo
Tony Clark (should be Carter)
-----------------------------
Pitchers in Tucson:
Dustin Nippert
Randy Choate
Casey Daigle
----------------------------
so it doesn't look like our 25 man, nor our 40 man are overly filled. why do we need to trade anybody? wait til the last second, when they've built up their trade value to the max, then trade if you have to. why trade now to clear out LF for player X, only to have player X blow out his elbow two days later? wait til the last second.
oh, and:
Guys I think are gone:
Miguel Batista
Jorge Julio
Craig Counsell
Andy Green
Scott Hairston (sad, but true)
Luis Gonzalez
Guys to be traded:
Juan Cruz (wish they wouldn't, but I bet they will)
Johnny Estrada

does owings need to be on the 40 man yet? i thought we bought another year for just about everybody. so i don't see why we'd need to trade anybody.

I think you're right. I misunderstood what was going on, anyway.
Nice to see Dangle and Choke are on the roster, though.

the new cba seems to have pushed back the symbolic purging of our 40 man roster. so many easy easy cuts (daigle?! seriously?! choate?!), so many great prospects to add. i was sort of looking forward to it, to seeing what magic byrnes could work. but, eh, i'll wait another year. and it saves our ass in the rule 5.

owings doesn't have to be put on the 40 man roster even under the old cba. the new cba helps with guys like reynolds, carter, ohlendorf and s. jackson.
