To paraphrase Jack Buck, "Go crazy, MG, go crazy!"
Congrats to the Cards and to David Eckstein. Who would have believed them winning this thing or Eckstein winning the MVP before this all began? |

nah, no brave front. the cards played great baseball and totally earned this. i really mean it: congrats to the cards and all their fans (especially mg). tonight's gonna suck for me and the rest of the tigers' fans, but the future looks bright for detroit.
god, there really isn't a pain like your boyhood team losing.

Remember how the Pads were crucified last season for having 82 wins, and being the worst playoff team ever...well, just one more win for Stl, and they won it all... |

I'd have some empathy, but I too got fucked in the ass-soul by a goat.... long before I was even born. Thank God for the 85 Bears, or I'd have nothing to be happy about, in this life. and I don't even really like football. Best sports moments

Hall of Famer Stan Musial, 85, didn't throw out the ceremonial first pitch before Game 3, not for the reason the Cardinals gave (cold weather) but because Joe Garagiola was the guy who'd catch it. Evidently, the teammates on the Cardinals' 1946 championship team have feuded for decades, since their co-ownership of a St. Louis bowling alley. |
Stan said he'd throw out the ceremonial first pitch for game 4 without Joe catching.
Ozzie Smith filled in for Musial in Game 3 even though the Hall of Fame shortstop is involved in a feud of his own -- with Tony La Russa.

Just got back from parents' home in Quincy (2 hrs. drive north of St. Louis). Was without Internet access, so couldn't check the board till now...
Pretty emotional weekend, as I waited for my brother & his wife to arrive in St. Louis from Portland, so we started driving a bit after the game started. Had to "watch" most of it on radio, but arrived at my parents for the 9th inning... so it was appropriate start to the weekend. Parents didn't have any champagne to douse on anyone tho
My dad religiously follows the Cards (I get daily email updates, esp. when they win), so appropriate for Cards to come out a winner this year... as they are moving to an assisted living facility in Rockford in a couple days. My dad's main complaint about the location is the MLB coverage... As he says, "To me-- the Cubs are NOT a good substitute!"
St. Louis is going crazy over this victory. The St. Louis newspapers have been plastered tons of Cardinals stories the past few days, and both St. Louis TV stations 4 and 5 pre-empted their coverage of the NFL and NASCAR to bring the Cardinals victory parade to the locals!!!! |

Apologies for the belatedness of this, but I've had to tend to some personal matters the past few days. Anyway, congrats to the Cardinals, and to TAP, moviegeegeekjn, and anyone else with St Louis connections/allegences. A truly great season...now the Cards can roll over and let my Brewers have a shot next year. And condolences to McCray. It was a hell of a ride--a lot further than anyone would have predicted last spring.

For those forward-thinking readers, HERE are the current Vegas odds for the 2007 World Series winner.
Something to consider.....the last two teams that fired manager Buck Showalter -- the Yankees and Diamondbacks -- won the title the following year. Keeping with that trend, you may want to book the 50-1 Rangers. |

Truthfully, of all the teams and all the odds, I think the Dbacks at 60-1 is the best risk/reward bet. |
