i reread shoe's response and saw nothing directed at any beer drinkers. you gotta realize you don't have to get defensive over here like you did 90% of the time over there, cuz everyone here is knowledgable, kind, and truly interested in carrying on legit talk.
so...have a cold one, on me, of course, (sam adams light) and chill, my brother. you can relax here & have a good conversation. but don't bring up that jerkwadphan over here again. Smile

It was all Mcray's fault. He insisted that phan's plan get posted over here, for debate purposes only.

Unless there had been some editing, I read what I read. There is no need to bring it up any further, it's a done bird! The little red and white timer is sticking up out of the breast. But in the need to correct you, I wasn't the defensive party of the conversation. Did ya miss that too?

So what about this demo days gig at MGC?

one little thing i want to clarify: i am not a saber. i'm learning saber approaches, but i'm not yet on the same level as shoewizard, dylan, levski, or any of the other resident geniuses. and i don't think i'll ever be 100% saber. i grew up with a scouting POV, and i'll always retain some of that. so best case scenario, i end up around a 50-50 mix.

i guess i ought to list my questions for discussion on 3.6. here goes:

1. what stats in particular will be used to ID a pitcher before the rest of the market IDs that same pitcher as a great (and therefore costly) one?

2. how does the idea plan to retain talent once they show dominance?

3. why does the plan choose to focus on roles instead of finding the five best starters and the seven best relievers?

4. why has the plan never been attempted if it's so certain to work?

5. this is a subset of 1. how does the plan give an edge to IDing, acquiring, and retaining good pitchers? is it a statistical edge, like the moneyball/obp idea? if so, what's the stat? is it a scouting edge? looking for pitchers who are unsuccessful now, but with minor changes could add 5mph or good movement to their pitches? if so, what is the adjustment? that will tell us what to look for in a target pitcher.

there are more, but if he's going to reply, those are my top 5.

josh said of the top 20 pitchers this past season, only ONE was a big FA acquisition.
we got lucky w/ RJ & curt for a season.

fri afternoon, all day saturday & sunday. all the manufacturers will have tents & clubs to hit to your heart's content. it's a blast!

to me it seemed like YOU were the defensive party at 1st. but i know it's from posting over there for years. forget about it! Smile
this forum is where folks that actually know something about the game get together. there'll be no ladies talking about players' asses, or trolling assphans either. you'll love it!

We played white tees, about 6300 yards....Orange Tree. I really should break 90 on a course like that.

I usually play with my Dad up at Desert Mountain. He's in his 70's and outdrives me. (Ok, everyone outdrives me) Those courses are really hard. When I break 90 in one of those courses, it's time for some serious celebrating. The slopes are all in the 130's to low 140's from the Blue tees...which is where the old bastard always makes me play from. Evil or Very Mad

I've only broken 80 twice on courses over 6000 yards. Breaking 80 on a 5400 yard track doesn't count.

You posed some very good and valid questions in regards to the afore-mentioned poster to remain anonymous. If we examined each question of yours in detail, I'd bet we could pretty much come up with some viable names for the sake of conversation.

I'd go even further to see if perhaps, some of these names would even appear on Byrnes wish list. This sounds like a challenge! Idea Care to explore the possibilities with me? It's gonna take Shoe and his stats and metric help among at least the opinions of at least a half dozen others.

We could make this our own war room, solely for entertainment purposes only, of course.

You game, Mccray?

Apparently, golf is to sports as chocolate is to the food groups...
You can fit it in anywhere! Wink

I have a guaranteed method for golf that absolutely insures my score will never be >72/9 holes, or 144/18 holes. My secret? I stop counting after 8.

My best round of golf? The day I spent walking the course with my brother and dad, talking to them while they played golf...

you want to make a warroom on the board, BC? i'm game. i'd rather we didn't do it in this thread, though -- i'd just rather not do his job for him in that regard.

but as far as brainstorming (i hate that word, but couldn't think of another) about what pitchers the team should target, i'm totally game. and you're right -- we're going to need some stats help, but the other guys are usually more than willing to help out. let's do it in another thread, another forum, but let's definitely do it.

(i need to do something. it just actually hit me today -- the season is over. no more baseball.)

check the team news section. i'm going to add a few names to the list of pitchers who might be trade targets in one of the threads. it'd probably fit well in baldmaga's "The OFFICIAL Unofficial D-Backs Offseason FA/Trade Thread."

if you're talking about golf, i have no idea.

if you're talking about the mention of he-who-must-not-be-named, shoewizard and i offered him to openly debate his theory here, because he claims whenever he posts details, the mods on the mlb board delete it.

BC was kind enough to explain what he believes the 3.6 plan to be (as a somewhat believer in the ideas of the plan, he did quite well), and the thread exists to offer he-who-must-not-be-named a place to own up to the challenge shoewiz and i issued.

don't worry; he won't respond here, and this thread will be dead in a few days. and if he does, maybe everyone can finally have a civil real conversation with him (highly doubtful, but one can dream).

Because golf threads belong in the "Other Sports" forum?

(Just funnin' with ya, Oden!)

Smile that's golf! most people swing too hard. that makes it hard to get the ball to go where ya want it to go.
we gotta play. we could get a 4-some from the posters here & have a blast.

Makes sure to appropriately title the thread. The same discussion covering multiple threads is not cool.

Why is oden so uptight? Did his zipper zip his sack?
