Once the World Series ends the off-season truly begins, so I figured it's a good time to bring up the important upcoming MLB dates. I checked these against another site and these look to be accurate.

Excellent ...thanks for posting this timely guide to offseason events and deadlines. A valuable reference tool we will surely refer to from time to time over the next few months.

I believe yesterday was the last day a player could file for free agency, making today the first day a team can negotiate contract terms, and sign them.

Since provisions in the new CBA have kicked in, some of the dates in the original post have changed. This is off the top of my head and should be cross-checked, but here goes. Smile

December 1, 2006 (formerly December 7, 2006)
Last day for clubs to offer salary arbitration to their former players who have filed for free agency. [No longer applies: A club not offering arbitration loses all rights to negotiate with and sign the free agent until May 1, 2007. Article XX (B) (3).]

December 7, 2006 (formerly December 19, 2006)
Last day for a free agent offered salary arbitration by his former club to accept or reject the offer. [No longer applies: If player rejects the offer to go to arbitration, his former club may continue to negotiate with and sign him until January 8, 2007. Article XX (B) (3).]

(On or around) December 10, 2006 (formerly December 20, 2006)
Last day for teams to offer 2007 contracts to unsigned players, as required by Paragraph 10 (a) of the Uniform Player Contract.

[No longer applies:
January 8, 2007

Last day until May 1 that a free agent who rejected his former club’s offer of arbitration may re-sign with that former club. CBA, Article XX (B) (3).]
