sorry, shoe. really. they were a fun team to watch all year, though, and hopefully pedro comes back well.

as for mg, does anyone know his number? how long do we wait until we do the "are you dead?" phone call?

2006 World Series. Cards vs. Tigers means an MG v. McCray deathmatch (assuming MG didn't already die).

I will now give the kiss of death to the Tigers--they will win, and they will sweep. (sorry McCray)

Not dead yet!

Just thanking the *stars/Fate* that Wainwright was closing. If it was still Issy, I would have refused to watch the bottom of the 9th because it would've been certain victory for the Mets.

Sorry Shoe, but this was really a classic game... some incredible plays and situations! No joy at Shea, but many are celebrating elsewhere (I'm sure to get an ecstatic email from my Dad) Very Happy

Bless you, Hank. (McCray will curse you for this, OTOH)

San Jose Mercury News shreds Pujols, with headline shouting Pujols starting to act like Barry Bonds - on and off the field.

Is this simply a Bay Area attempt to make Barry not look like baseball's biggest a-hole, or is Albert not the patron saint he's been made out to be. Details at 11:00. Rolling Eyes

Meh... much ado about nothing (nothing new for the media, who look for "sensational" stories wherever they can dig them up). The comments most commonly referred to were more for Albert's teammates... than they were meant as "disrespect."

Actually, there's a St. Louis columnist (Bryan Burwell) that wrote about Pujols' recent surliness, but could be something more behind recent apparent mood shift. Pujols' close uncle died before the series began from a heart attack: Pujols mourns death of his beloved uncle

Quote:
And as Pujols made his stiff-legged trot around the bases in the fourth inning of the Cardinals' 4-2 victory over the New York Mets in Game 5 of the NLCS, the big slugger did what he always does as he reached home plate. He did that quick shuffle-slide, then raised both hands in a double point to the heavens.

Until now, the gesture had been a symbol of Pujols' religious faith. But last night, it took on an even deeper meaning. It was his way of acknowledging Antonio Joaquin dos Santos, the uncle who had treated him like a son. Dos Santos was buried Tuesday morning on the Caribbean island of Curacao. He was the man who helped raise Pujols and who bought him so many baseball gloves and bats. Uncle Antonio died eight days ago of a heart attack, and now Pujols' heart ached because he couldn't be there to comfort his aunt or pay tribute to his uncle.

"I still close my eyes and can't believe he's no longer here," Pujols said as he stood near the batting cage hours before Game 5. "I still see his face. I still think of him as being alive."

Pujols told this story to me Tuesday because he wanted to explain why he has gone through this baseball postseason in such a joyless manner. "You're right, this should be fun, but it hasn't been fun because I lost my uncle," he told me. "You know how tough it is when someone you love dies? Well, that's what I've been going through."

Kevin Hench of foxsports.com agrees...

Despite his incredible postseason run (15 scoreless innings), Kenny Rogers is not Sandy Koufax. The 41-year-old Gambler is due to crap out. And when the guy who entered this postseason with an 8.86 playoff ERA resurfaces, you might want to give him a wide berth.

I'm so sick of Journalists that don't understand sample sizes. Prior to this season, Rogers had pitched about 20 postseason innings.

That kind of journalism happens all the time. There were a number of pundits that nearly expressed "shock" that TLR didn't start So Taguchi in Game 7 two nights ago... since So was soooooo "hot" in the playoffs and batting 1.000 (4 for 4 with two homers).
