Welcome aboard - good to see some female representation around here to even out maybe just a little of the jockularity...
Little hint for the newbie - dont pick on Conor Jackson for his lack of power... |
Heh, noted. I'm really enjoying that thread, though!

We'll forgive you for last season's mortal sin considering your promise to root for the Diamondbacks at Fenway (and assuming we'll never hear you cheering for Boston at Chase again). |
Well, my firm rule (stolen from a friend who has somehow managed to be a lifelong fan of both the Tigers and the Red Sox) is to always root for the visiting team when "my" two teams go head to head, so I can't quite promise that.
I do promise that if they were to meet in October in the next few years, I would suspend that rule and root for the Diamondbacks throughout. Though mostly, I would just bask in the wonder of it all. (I was hoping so badly for that matchup last year - especially since I was coming out to Phoenix WS weekend and would have gotten to go to one of the games.)

I'm Suzane, and I've been a Diamondback fan since 2001 (guess why that is? lol). In my defense, I have to say that I'd never been interested in any sports before. Then I saw Schilling and Johnson striking out all those Yankees, and couldn't believe what I was seeing. I've been a fan of the team and baseball ever since.
I moved from Tucson to Indianapolis many years ago, but still have family there. I try to see a game when I visit, and try to see the team when they play in Cincinnati. I was rather upset when we instituted DST. It makes for some pretty late nights!
I am really enjoying watching the current team. |

Thanks! Yes, the Colts are quite popular here.
I never thought I would end up living in Indiana!

Isn't it a contradiction to say "living" and "Indiana" in the same sentence?
(Written by an east coast born transplant who loves the Arizona desert; who spent two years in Illinois that most definitely cannot be described as "living"; "surviving," maybe -- but not "living!")
Welcome, Suzane, to the home of the true fans of the Arizona Diamondbacks!

C'mon... be fair now. There ARE some cool places to "live" in Illinois (during at least in two of the four seasons)

I guess I'm pretty flexible - I've been here for almost 18 years!
I do miss Tucson a lot. And I still can't get used the winters here!

That's exactly why moviegeekjn and I (at far different times, of course) left Illinois for Arizona. Welcome aboard IndyDFan!

Welcome, Suzane! I grew up in Indiana, in a tiny town south of Greensburg. In that part of the state, we were all Reds fans. I moved to AZ in 1997, so I jumped on board with the brand new DBacks, and it's been a fun ride! I'm actually coming back for a week in May for my Grandmother's 90th birthday. Looking forward to seeing green again... |

Precisely!

The misery of dealing with the humidity of the summers is surpassed only by the misery of dealing with the cold and wet winters...
We spent the first year in "Tornado Alley" in Wood River (near Edwardsville); and the second year in the ice storm capital of the area, in Springfield.
I'll take the heat here over the cold there, hands down!

There ya go...on the positive side, great baseball country... right near the heart of Redbird Nation (I grew up in Quincy). And some good wooded areas, and Lincoln stuff in S'field.

Hey, my name is Jeffrey. I was born and raised in Phoenix and graduated from ASU in December. I recently got a job out in Bristol, CT (yes, it is with ESPN). Baseball has always been my favorite sport and I love reading about players from the past. I had an amazing experience this past summer interning at the Baseball Hall of Fame and saw so many great artifacts and met some of my baseball heroes and it only depended my love for baseball. I don't really post on message boards very often, though I've been reading this site since last summer and found it to be very good. Thanks for your time. |

Welcome. I'm super jealous of your time at the HOF. See what you can do about getting ESPN to notice the D-backs this year. |

Welcome aboard Jeffrey and congrats on the cool ESPN gig! Any chance you can pull the plug occasionally on the Red Sox / Yankees overexposure and sneak in some extra coverage for the best team in baseball?

I am a Diamondbacks fan. I grew up like the White Sox because my family is from Chicago and my brother was a Cubs fan and I could never side with him. I was 12 when the D-Backs started playing ball and probably 2 or 3 years prior is when I started getting hooked on baseball so it was a perfect time for them to start.
As for getting more exposure, everytime I work SportsCenter or Baseball Tonight I say something. And they are starting to notice. If you watch you will see the Diamondbacks near the top of every show and more and more often they are having a conversation about them instead of moving straight to the next highlight. I have even heard some people asking what the weather is like in Arizona in October. As for the Yanks/Sox stuff, there is nothing that will ever change that. I can't stand either team and their fans, but the reality is they are here to stay. The amount of people who like either team is staggering and the population of both cities and their fans is so large that you can't ignore them. The good news is people are starting to look at the Diamondbacks and seeing that there are more teams than the Yanks and Soxs. |

That was what freaked me out when I moved here -- way too much green in the scenery! and no mountains.

That is so cool - Great job! I hope you are playing up the perfect October baseball weather in Phoenix.

heh... having flashback to time I took one of my Navajo chess players to the World Open in Philadelphia. He was freaking about all the greenery, remarking how he thought we had landed in a "jungle." (in fricking Philly, no less)
