So David Peralta has been a nice surprise. He's hit very well since his callup. With 2 more hits today he raised his triple slash to
.321/.345/.455 for an even .800 OPS. The below table is prior to today, as Baseball-reference has not updated yet.
I was looking at left hand hitting rookies, age 25-27 in their rookie season, (so either a year younger, same age or a year older than Peralta in rookie season). Here is the full criteria. Very small sample size caveat for Peralta applies here of course. So take it for what it's worth. He's had a nice start. We'll have to see where it goes from here.
Since 1961, expansion
Rookie season
age 25-27
Left handed
Minimum 100 PA
OPS+ min 114, maximum 126 (he came into today's game with a 118 but that will go up a couple of points by tmw)
ISO higher than .114 but less than .154 (this controls to get guys with higher batting avg but not a lot of homers)
SO/BB ratio at least 1.5 . Peralta's is almost 4, but if you set it at 2.0 or higher you only get a couple of guys, and strikeouts are a lot more common now than years past......
