Byrnes, hair askew, I think just surprised alot of people showing how articulate he can be while analyzing playoff baseball on Baseball Tonight.
I can see it now, ten years from now...Byrnes in the Booth, Grace on the field managing, and Thom watching the Reds lose year after year |

He was talking about Hunter's misplay of the Kotsay inside-the-park homerun today. And it showed Byrnes' play from a couple weeks ago against the Rockies where he did the same thing. He did a real good job except he didn't look at the camera. |

Ravach asked Zito if there were any good Byrnes stories...and he said yes, if Baseball Tonight were on HBO.
Then he went on to say, that Byrnes looks like he stuck a paperclip in a electrical socket. |

Clearly you've mistaken Eric Byrnes with Khalil Greene.

NY Post Article about Byrnes TV Stint.
He sure does love Jeter. Talk about a mancrush...LOL
Quote: |
"When I'm standing on second base and Derek Jeter walks by and gives me a little tap and says, 'What's up, Bernzy?' I get the chills,'' Byrnes said on Baseball Tonight. "He's the one player. What's so funny is, if you look at the numbers, numerically he is not necessarily the best player in the game, but he just has that aura about him. It is inexplicable. The star power of Derek Jeter is like nobody I have ever met in my life.'' |
He did a decent job though......even toned down his suit a bit after the first night.
Oh, and for those of you who have not had your fill of Gonzo...

Fox Sports will add the White Sox' A.J. Pierzynski in studio for next weekend's post-season coverage. For the NLCS, the Diamondbacks' Luis Gonzalez will be in Fox Sports' booth. SNY will have Todd Zeile on its pre- and post-game this weekend. |

Gonzo offers nothing but cliche ridden "insights" about the obvious, along with praising the virtues of Proven Veteran leadership in post season play. I'm already tired of his schtick after one full game and two innings on radio.

I had the (dis)pleasure of listening to Gonzo on my way back from Tucson yesterday. He annoyed me a bit. |

Yes, a few innings of hearing Gonzo on the radio as a color commentator is enough to cause almost anyone to hope that, should he return to the Diamondbacks "in some capacity," it is not in the broadcast booth...

In his defense, not everyone can just grab a mic and be good from the start. Loved Kirby Puckett on the field, but behind a mic he was horrible. Al Leiter is great, but he's an exception. I think you have to give players a few goes at it before you can say they suck or not at color commentary. |

Gonzo has done color commentary in the playoffs before. This isn't his first season. But he hasn't had alot of practice obviously. |

Well, for my part, I'd rather have a proven veteran at the mike...
