verlander is starting tonight against mussina. i'm not starting a gameday -- i'm accursed.
please, please guys, just win this one. just one game, win it for verlander. this kid deserves better than this crapfest of a team you gave him. please, god, please!
Mac, your angst level is alarming. I can only imagine how distraught you will be next year when it is the D-backs in the NLDS. We may have to lock you in a closet for the duration of the playoffs when that happens...

With a whole jar of sedatives for the Webb starts...

I just saw the strangest double play....Kent out by a mile at home thanks to good throw by Green and good relay.....and then Drew followed Kent anyway, and was out too.
Green is highly motivated for this series...

Shawn Green spent five of the best years of his career with the Dodgers, so to say he was surprised when Los Angeles traded him to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Jan. 11, 2005 would be an understatement. He was shocked, actually.
And Green, who averaged 32 home runs and 102 RBI while wearing Dodger blue from 2000 to 2004, admits that he let the trade tarnish the memories he had of his time with L.A.
"There was definitely some animosity there," he said.
Green said the hard feelings started to fade this season, which he began with Arizona before being dealt once again, this time to the Mets. Now, with the Dodgers in town today to begin the best-of-five division series against his new club, Green is back to feeling the way he did two winters ago - he wants to see the Dodgers fail miserably.
In fact, Green isn't the only one. While all of the Mets obviously want to beat L.A., several of them have particularly strong feelings about their first-round opponent. Paul LoDuca, Jose Valentin and Guillermo Mota are the other Mets on the postseason roster who had significant stays with the Dodgers at some point in their careers. Injured pitchers Pedro Martinez and Duaner Sanchez did, too.
Green and LoDuca had the most success in L.A. Like Green, LoDuca spent a good chunk of his career - 6-1/2seasons - playing for the Dodgers. In 2001, he hit .320 with 25 homers and 90 RBI for L.A. The catcher was considered the heart and soul of the team, which made it even more surprising when he, Mota and Juan Encarnacion were traded to the Marlins during the 2004 season in a deal that sent Brad Penny - a potential starter in this series - to the Dodgers, along with Hee Seop Choi and a minor-leaguer.

Did Green get two assists on the play where Lo Duca tagged out the two runners?
Would Green get an assist at all? Didn't the throw from Green go to Valentin, who then threw it in to Lo Duca to make the tag(s)?
