Any one else think that Lute should just retire? Were at the point where the UA needs to move on I think. Yes, you were great. You are a HOF. But, like Gonzo, do we really need a has been?

Just asking, im sure Ill be slammed one way or the other. Rolling Eyes

Shadow,

Did I miss something on the rehab? I haven't read anywhere about Lute doing that. Or did I miss something along the way?

That was certainly an option, but it would have left the program in shambles. Brandon Jennings would have tried like hell to get out of his LOI, and Budinger and Bayless (and probably Hill) would have all gone pro regardless of draft status. They may still do that, but with the chances of any grouping of them coming back will get the program through at least next year.

With Lute in as head coach for the next few seasons at least, the U of A can conduct a proper search for a replacement head coach.

Its my understanding (read somewhere, probably azcentral) that O'Neil has an agreement with UofA to be Olsen's successor. That said, I imagine it will be rather awkward next season if he's still there when Olsen returns.

I think Olsen is the only recruiting card UofA has; once he's gone, I expect the program will fall apart.

that was the case but from what I heard O'Neil is going to explore his options

Lute left under the Family Medical Leave Act. When he left he said it was not health related. When he returned they said it was.

If you remember the shakes and he had to come out and say he did not have parkinsons last year.

Most in the media know about the time in rehab but will not report it.

KO did get a bump in pay that they tried to keep secret. I think that is the UofA's way of saying thanks for this year but no way in hell we are going to go with that verbal deal we had to give you the head coaching job when Lute goes. He will not be back next year. Jay Johns might return.

From contacts I have down there the players are not big fans of KO. Lots of in fighting on the team between upper classmen and the Freshman hotshot Bayless. He will be gone next year for the NBA but this point guard kid they have coming in is the best High School player in the country and some say could play in the NBA right now.

Im not a UofA fan but I loved the style of ball they played a couple years back where they ran the ball all the time.

Good to see Harden coming back to ASU we might have us a rivalary again.

Thanks for that. I hadn't heard anything about rehab. I'm also disappointed if you're right about the in-fighting with Bayless. He just reminds me of the type of player a team needs to win a championship. He's someone who will take the game in his hands in the last two minutes and has serious fire in his eyes. (See also: Mike Bibby) I was hoping to get one more year with him playing the two to Brandon Jennings next year.

Bayless is gone. That Jennings kid though is something special he might be one year and out too but he is so good that the one year might take you to the promised land. He's that good.

Video of controversial call at the end of the ASU v. USC game.

Admittedly, ASU struggled to score down the stretch, but that is a horrible call.

ESPN's Andy Katz and his take on the call & ASU's tournament chances.

I used to work with Andy. How he got this ESPN gig I'll never know.

You never know with the selection but I'd say ASU is in and if New Mexico losses and they are right now I might even let UofA in.

Pac 10 should have no less than six though.

I wonder if uofwho's strength of schedule will still be good enough to get them into the second round of the NCAA Tourney? Rolling Eyes Really helped their sorry asses in the first round, but I guess WVU didn't get the memo

And you honestly thought ASU stood a chance in hell to win a game?

Ok. Rolling Eyes

My answer to the general question would be yes, if ASU was in the tournament I think they would have had a chance to win a game. That said, I think that about most teams. In a 1 game playoff a lot can happen where as a 'lessor' team is unlikely to win in a series.

More specifically, if ASU would have gone up against West Virginia, I would have felt even more confident. WV's strength is the perimeter and against UofA they shot 11-19 from 3. ASU plays better team defense and I think its highly unlikely that WV would have shot the 3 as well against ASU.
