i love pitching. it's hard to break it down and put it into words, though. i was driving one day several years ago and saw a highschool baseball team practicing. the pitcher's mechanics were AWFUL... and dangerous too. so i pulled over and went out onto the field.

they thought it was crazy, but i started moving his elbow around a little differently, and after about 10 minutes, i could see the lightbulb go on. i ended up going to their practices 3 days a week to work with the kids on throwing.

peavy's going to keep fighting injuries and being ineffective for periods until he changes that. just my opinion, but i'd have changed that day one when i met the kid. there truly are some idiots out there who are gainfully employed as pitching coaches. i may not be great at it, but i can see when something's going to get you hurt.

oh, and i should say, overall i like peavy's mechanics. i just hate his followthrough (or lack thereof). i really like his legwork, though.

I guess the Cards got sick of everyone not giving them any credit.

With low expectations of the team, they may be looser than usual.

Also, they have hardly had both Edmonds and Eckstein together in the lineup during the last couple months.

and Albert Pujols is their not so secret weapon!

I had to go out for a while, and I see the Cards danced all over Peavy's head.

Wells better come up big for them tmw.

Listened to last part of game and some post game on ESPN radio on way home--Gonzo was color guy. Found myself getting a bit irritated with Gonzo since he continued to harp on the importance of "veterans" -- how you have to have "veterans" to win in the post season, how the Cardinals have a lot of "veterans" who have been there before, yada yada yada... and then quips in the bottom of the 9th after Wainwright has struck out the second batter: "He doesn't seem like a young pitcher."

During post game, they interviewed Pujols briefly with Gonzo asking if they changed their hitting approach against Peavy the second time around. After Albert dutifully answered, he humorously queried Gonzo about his future plans: "Hey, you coming to St. Louis next year?"

He's become a teensy-bit jaded against younger players, but he hides his bias well.
