Keeping tabs here. He can opt out of his contract by seasons end. Anyone think he will? He's gonna make 11 millon a year until 2009, so he's set pretty nicely and the Dodgers aren't a bad team at all. However, he could try to get a better deal somewhere else.
In case he does, should Arizona strongly consider it? Something like a 2-year, 24 million deal. He has awesome on-base skills, a lefty, adequate defender, and his brother is some hot-shot shortstop currently on the Arizona roster. Eric would naturally be gone for pitching.
Cons, well he'd cost a lot of money, a draft pick (unless compensation picks are really gone), his position is occupied by Carlos Quentin, and the D'backs aren't exactly World Series contenders yet.
Opinions, compadres.

Too much for too little -- even if we didn't have Quentin in right field.
The money would be better spent on pitching, or banking it for the day when we want to resign Stephen to a long-term deal.

I think he has said he will not opt out... I think the only way he would do that, is to get MORE money than the too much he is already getting. |

And why would he want to opt out? The Dodgers are in the playoffs, and have a good chance of returning next year. |
