Maybe the Diamondbacks will be better off losing today because they move up in the draft. Does anyone know where they will pick?

My guess is that the winner of the season series between the D'backs and the Rockies will determine that.

does the winner of the season series "win" the lower pick, or the higher pick?

Don't know; but betcha it's the higher pick (#9, rather than #8...) Sad

I would think the opposite. That's the general tie breaker ant that would put them above us in the standings. Meaning they pick ninth, not eighth. I'm still guessing on the original rule for the tie-breaker though.

Here's the "logic" (such as it is ) by which I reached my guess:

SD and the LAD finished with identical records. SD wins the division on the basis of being the winner of the season's series between the two teams.

The DBacks and Rocks also finished with identical records. The winner of the season's series will rank higher than the loser; and, as such, is the "better" team; and so will pick behind the other team.

My "quik'n'dirty" tally shows the Dbacks winning the series vs. Colorado, 12-7. As such, I believe this means the Rockies will have the #8 pick; and we will have the #9 pick.

And it would've been a 3 way tie had SF had to make up their game vs. STL, and lost.
