Whatever, get his ass out of here. I understand where he's coming from - he wants those AB's for RBI's and HR's. But sit him, protect the .300 avg, and get him out of here. Gotta figure an AL team would love a catcher batting .300. Except the Twins. They seem to be set at C.

Here's a little known fact - Minnesota's backup catcher is hitting .340 this year too.
Mauer - 349/432/503
Redmond - 343/369/422
Now that's some good production at the position. |

From today's Republic--
Quote: |
Estrada likely to join exodus from Arizona
Bob McManaman
The Arizona Republic
Sept. 27, 2006 12:00 AM
SAN FRANCISCO - This won't just be the end for Luis Gonzalez and, potentially, Craig Counsell. When the Diamondbacks close out the year with four home games Thursday through Sunday at Chase Field against San Diego, it figures to be the end of the road for catcher Johnny Estrada, too.
At least in an Arizona uniform.
Estrada finally said as much on Tuesday and General Manager Josh Byrnes, in his strong public comments to date, acknowledged the Diamondbacks will probably try to trade Estrada after this season. advertisement
"We feel like with (Miguel) Montero's development, he is certainly a candidate to be major-league ready and obviously, (Chris) Snyder has had a good year," Byrnes said. "Maybe Johnny is frustrated because of that, but he has played very well for us, too, and we think a lot of him as a player. But we'll go into the off-season with a surplus there, and we'll see if we can use it as trade bait."
Estrada, who has had personality clashes with manager Bob Melvin and pitching coach Bryan Price, said he is counting down the days and will be happy to move on, noting his decreased playing time. He has been particularly unhappy about not having caught Brandon Webb during the ace's past four outings, including Tuesday night against the Giants at AT&T Park.
Melvin considered starting Estrada but changed his mind, saying of Snyder and Webb: "I liked the way they've worked together the last three times."
Estrada, who is arbitration-eligible in the off-season, meaning the Diamondbacks control his rights, said his preference would be for Arizona to work out a trade that would send him to Philadelphia. The Phillies signed him in 1997 after drafting him in the 17th round that year.
"They're a team that obviously has a good nucleus of players; they're going to need a catcher, and I've been there before, I know their whole coaching staff and they know me," Estrada said.
"I know what Philly fans expect, too. I know it's a tough place to play, but the bottom line is they want a winner on the field, and they don't care how you do it. They want you to win; they don't want just a bunch of yes men."
Estrada had his share of run-ins with then-Phillies manager Larry Bowa, but said a lot of other players did, too.
"I saw Larry Bowa single-handedly run Scott Rolen out of town my rookie year," he said. " . . . Having to be thrown into that kind of fire with that kind of manager, it was a pretty rude awakening. But I wouldn't change it for the world, because it made me who I am."
His other top choice would be getting dealt to San Francisco, which isn't far from where he was raised. He thinks it's doubtful, however, that the Diamondbacks would consider trading him to a division foe.
Sunday special
Melvin has asked Gonzalez if he and Counsell would be willing to take the lineup card out to the umpires at home plate before Sunday's season finale.
"I've sent players out there before," Melvin said, "but there's a certain sentimental value to have those two guys do it. 'Couns' has always been pretty reluctant, but we'll see. I'm sure Gonzo will have a little say on that, maybe do a little prodding."
Short hops
Second baseman Orlando Hudson rejoined the team about 90 minutes before game time after taking care of personal family issues and wasn't in the starting lineup... Melvin said Montero will make his third start behind the plate on Saturday when he catches Edgar Gonzalez. That's who the rookie has caught in his first two starts, both of them Arizona victories. |

Oakland has some solid pitching at High levels that I think can be had in a trade. I seen some of these guys and really like what I seen. |

IMO, it goes down every time Johnny opens his big mouth...
He's tying Byrnes' hands and limiting what anyone would give for him by demanding a trade.

the team has the right to perform medical procedures on their players, right? can't we just sedate him until he's traded. let the guy wake up groggy in 2 months in philly or oakland for all i care.

Better than my gagged and bound with a tube sock and duct tape idea, and probably a little more humane.

And you can say that I am a dreamer
But I'm not the only one...
No way the Phillies give up Hamels...

I think Byrnes is limited only if there is only one potential trading partner. As long as a potential trading partner knows that the D-backs have multiple destinations to send Estrada to, then the incentive is to make your best offer lest you get beat out by the other suitor.

I hope Johnny ends up in Baltimore or Kansas City, mired in mediocrity for the rest of his career, still crying to the newspapers and destroying all of his own credibility without ever playing on a winning club again. |

Xactly. Estrada has no NTC, and Byrnes will feel no compunction to only deal with his "desired" destinations. Hopefully a few teams will be seeking an offensive boost in the catching position to raise his value.

Shame. It might have helped his trade value.
