Though Hernandez's regular season numbers were average at best, he dominated in his five starts against the Rockies. The damage he allowed was limited to six runs in 34 total innings, and not once in his five starts did Hernandez allow more than two runs and last fewer than six innings.

Couple his success against Colorado with his 7-2 postseason record, and Arizona is confident that it has the pitcher on the mound that it wants.

On Saturday, the veteran right-hander said he doesn't necessarily like being the guy in these back-against-the-wall situations. Shocked

Jenifer Langosch / MLB.com

“I’m sure you guys are all probably writing us off. I don’t blame you,” Eric Byrnes told the media at his press conference before the D-Backs’ workout at Coors Field on Saturday afternoon.

“We haven’t done a whole lot to make you guys think we are going to win this series. I think we’re a good team, and I also don’t think the Rockies have outplayed us, because they haven’t.

“Not even close. They’ve had a little luck go their way. We have not been outplayed. If anything, I think it’s the other way around.”

The D-Backs, who lost Game 2 in 11 innings Friday, have three more hits than the Rockies in the series but have been unable to move those runners, going 2-for-14 with runners in scoring position.

They have had players called out on four different plays at second base, and have committed the only two errors of the series.

Throw in Colorado center fielder Willy Taveras’ diving catch in right-center field to take a hit and RBI away from Tony Clark in the seventh inning of Game 2, and it adds up to a 2-0 series edge for a team that has won 19 of its past 20 games.

I suppose the game time was determined by TBS.

We gotta catch some lucky breaks eventually, right? Right?

Anybody, anytime?

Or more appropriately, why not us, why not tonight?

Just win, baby.

The D-Backs need to work Fogg over tonight. Make him throw pitches in the strike zone, and lay off the bullshit. Rather than trying to be a hero everytime they swing the bat, look to keep a rally going by swinging to get on base.

If D-Backs pitchers can continue to do what they've done for the past 17 nnings, 3 runs could be enough.

"We expect to win every game," Spilborghs said. "To come out of here with two wins is pretty much what we expected."

Should be all the motivation this team needs to stick it to the Rockies tonight.

A hint of winter is scheduled to invade our state today. It might even snow. The World Series, if it graces our state, could feature a blizzard.

Much of the Baseball Nation will tune in tonight to watch the Rockies and Diamondbacks. Along with the game, the TV crowds could see fans huddling close together for warmth.

So here’s the bright side of tonight’s gloomy weather. It will serve as superb camouflage, inspiring out-of-state TV viewers to say, “I don’t want to live there.”

That’s great. The bad weather could keep our state from being overrun by newcomers.

“Baseball’s not meant to be played in cold weather,” Goose Gossage said, via his cell phone near Leadville. “It’s a very delicate game. You need your hands, and when your hands are frozen...”

Gossage paused.

“Man. It’s tough. You just don’t have a feel for batting, fielding or throwing.”

In other words, fans will be watching a diluted version of America’s Pastime just when the games matter most.

Rockies reliever Brian Fuentes warns against expecting an advantage for the home team.

“It’s going to be freaking cold,” Fuentes said, “but I don’t think we like playing in the cold any more than they do.”

Playing a baseball game tonight in downtown Denver makes about as much sense as holding spring training at the North Pole.

Oh great- this is a perfect recipe for pulling hammys and such while trying to leg out first base or a ball to the outfield...
Will we be graced with the sight of Byrnes mummy impression tonight I wonder? Rolling Eyes Shocked Laughing

Hernandez is 1-0 with a 1.54 ERA against Colorado this season and 7-8 with a 4.37 ERA for his career against the Rockies.

"[Having Montero as Hernandez's personal catcher] works for a couple of different reasons," D-backs manager Bob Melvin said. "One, it gets Miguel at least one day when he knows he is going to be in there. Two, he's with a veteran guy who can teach him along the way. Three, the comfort of having the guy you can throw to all the time. All those things combined make it a good match and one we want to stick with."

Hernandez, 32, has grown fond of the rookie. He considers Montero one of his best friends on the team and respects the way the Venezuelan native plays the game. Hernandez believes his new buddy will be an everyday catcher one day and just needs the opportunity to prove it. For his part, Montero hit .224 with 10 home runs and 37 RBIs in 214 at-bats during 84 games. He made his Major League debut last season with the D-backs, playing in six games.

"We have a great relationship," Hernandez said. "He moves great back there. He makes a great target. We work good together."

Hernandez went 11-11 with a 4.93 ERA during the regular season, primarily working with Montero. With Montero behind the plate last week, Hernandez limited the Cubs to one run on five hits over six innings for the victory in Game 3 of the NL Division Series to complete the sweep of Chicago.

"He's a young catcher, but he knows how to manage the situations in the game, and that's the most important part," Hernandez said. "He's an offensive catcher. He hits, and it seems like he is going to be a .280 or .300 hitter in the big leagues. He calls a good game."

Montero describes his relationship with Hernandez as "brotherly" and said it has been like a dream come true to work with the veteran. The pair dine together on the road and at home, play golf together and constantly call each other on the phone. Carpooling to work is not uncommon. Hernandez has even gone as far as to buy his "little brother" fancy suits and expensive clothes so he can feel like a real Major League player.

Colorado Rockies:

- Past instances in which I professed to like you were fraudulent.

- I mock your value system. You also appear foolish in the eyes of others.

- I engaged in intercourse with your spouse or significant other.

"Guess we've got to win it in six now, huh?" Arizona third baseman Mark Reynolds had mused bravely following the 11th-inning, 3-2 loss in Friday night's Game 2.

What are the rules concerning snow? Are there any rules for that?

I would think it would be similar to rain. They bring the tarp out when it snows, and delay the game.

But if it isn't a wet snow, would that affect the field conditions enough to warrant stopping play. Guess a buildup of snow wouldn't be very good Shocked

If we can win Game 3, I like our chances with Micah on the mound in Game 4. Let's go D-Backs!

Man, this waiting is killing me. I haven't even cracked a beer for Sunday afternoon football. Shocked If I started drinking too early, I'll be comatose before the game even started. Embarassed

Maybe a blizzard will hit Denver, and they'll have to return to Phoenix to continue the series. Twisted Evil

I'm cautiously optimistic about tonight. I know Livan's numbers against the Rocks, but still, it is Livan. Hopefully he pitches a hell of a game tonight.

Go D-Backs!!

If we win, I'm back to believing, right now I'm unsure.
