The Mitchell report will be released between oct. 31 and the end of the year and names of those investigated will be included in the report.

What difference does it make? It's not like Bud Selig has the balls, brains or ability to do anything about the people named in the report.

because baseball owes it to the players in the minor leagues and no bodies they made examples of ( along with how Jose Canseco was treated by MLB)
They don't have to take action, just give us the names.
For example, Jeff Bagwell. I have always thought he was aided by something due to his swing. |

IMO, I think it will make a tremendous difference. If not with Selig, then definitley the owners/managers who won't get near any of these guys with a 10 foot pole if they are on the market. Also with the fans it will affect them.
Bug Sellout never has had the cajones to do anything about this, and never will unless he is leaned on veeery hard.

lets say the list comes out. There are 50 names, 30 of which are pitchers. Does this change the public opinion of the other 20 players? That is, if all of the anger that has been doled out to suspected steroid users, and guilty ones, has been based on the fact that they had an 'unfair' advantage, shouldn't that tune be changed if a large number of these names are pitchers?
Now, if the objection comes from a legal or moral stanpoint, like, "he's bad because he broke the law", then we're talking about something different. However, the term 'cheating' insinuates the concept of an unfair advantage, one that i think is negated by pitchers using the same junk. i've never judged Bonds, or called him a cheater; because i've always had a very strong hunch that there were a LOT of pitchers using, too. I think that this list will justify my skepticism. |

Selig may not have to cajones to do anything, but consider this. Up until now, Selig has stated that he can't take action (at least against the star players--Bonds, Sosa, etc) because there's no proof--just suspicion. The exception is Giambi, who got off essentially by turning states' evidence. With all of the research Mitchell has done, Selig will HAVE his proof, and that might well force his hand. What would be worse to Selig's mind--to have the proof, make it public, and then ignore it; or to come down hard on some star players in the name of health, safety, purity of the game, etc.? People have been getting on Selig to act for years now--he has no reason not to. And if people hate him for disciplining their favorite player, so what? By the time Spring Training rolls around, most people's anger will have subsided. There might be a small drop in attendance or merchandise sales, but it'll be temporary. I hope Selig will act, because he can't afford not to. I just hope that whatever action he takes, he does it before the winter meetings start. |

I really hope a majority of them are pitchers. Most of all, I hope Clemens name is finally made public. Another name that needs to finally be made public is Jack Cust. We'll see I suppose.

Is that so? How about Mota, who got suspended for steroids last year, yet Minaya gave him a 2 year deal? How about all the players whose names have been dragged through the dirt who remain, and will remain employed?
You are one hopeless dreamer.

Do you really think it matters whether they are pitchers or position players in the public's mind? Cheating is cheating is cheating, IMHO. Don't pitchers get an advantage as well by using?
I'm not trying to be argumentative here, I just really don't see how using can be broken into categories of acceptable versus unacceptable based on whether they are pitchers or position. Why do you think it's different?

Reported-Player-Y can't get signed (for onfield performance reasons or otherwise) and then hires expensive lawyer to sue every team that he believes discriminated against him since he's "not been convicted nor yet tested positive." This has the potential to get really ugly and turn fans off en masse.
Good luck Bud. PED's brought fans back in 1998 and may turn them away in 2008.

Exactly. Not to mention that many of these players may and will argue that MLB didn't have any policies prohibiting these when they took them, so they are being punished ex post facto.
