If it were done at Chase we could fill the pool with milk and have the race end with Russ belly-flopping into the pool of donuts soaking in milk. (Might be a little too risque for the kids though)

The Giants are our friends this weekend.

I'd like to see them take at least one in SD over the weekend, possibly 2.

Zito, Cain, and Lincecum go against the Padres in the upcoming series.

Wow - perfect timing. The rotation matches up nice - they get some tough cookies, we get zito, sanchez, and correia again - away from thier place.

If you think Melvin fucked up last night. Take a look at Bochy's momentous blunder of sticking with his closer who entered the 9th with a 2 run lead after blowing 3 of his previous 5. Most of you should remember his previous outing on Monday.

B Hennessey relieved B Wilson. 4 2
R Klesko at first base. 4 2
Scott Hairston Strike (looking), Strike (swinging), Ball, Ball, Ball, Foul, S Hairston homered to left 4 3
Josh Bard Ball, Strike (foul), Ball, Ball, Strike (looking), Ball, J Bard walked, B Clark ran for J Bard, C Stansberry hit for H Bell 4 3
Craig Stansberry Strike (bunted foul), C Stansberry sacrificed to pitcher, B Clark to second, S Kline relieved B Hennessey

Brian Giles Strike (looking), B Giles flied out to right 4 3
Geoff Blum Ball, G Blum doubled to left, B Clark scored, D Giese relieved S Kline 4 4
Mike Cameron Strike (looking), Strike (foul), M Cameron flied out to center

Giles fly out was to the wall in right-center and looked like it was gone leaving the bat.

Rajai Davis made a diving catch at the base of the CF wall to end the inning.

And the guy everyone but Bochy sees as the guy who should be closing for SF came in pitched a very efficient, stress free 8th.
B Wilson relieved T Walker.
Adrian Gonzalez Ball, Strike (swinging), Ball, Ball, A Gonzalez grounded out to shortstop
Khalil Greene Ball, Strike (foul), K Greene grounded out to third
Kevin Kouzmanoff Ball, Ball, K Kouzmanoff grounded out to shortstop

The Giants have just scored 5 in the bottom of the 3rd and are still batting to take a 7-2 lead against Young.

No lead seems safe with the Giants BP until it gets to Wilson in the 9th right now.

RBI triple followed by a squeeze play just made it 9-4 Giants in SF.
Padres in trouble.

The Giants are going to be younger, more enthusiastic and, without Barry Bonds, significantly more cohesive. It's just that they can't help but notice a veritable Mount Everest blocking their path back to respectability, and this conversation doesn't even include the pitching-tough San Diego Padres or prospect-filled Los Angeles Dodgers.

The stat mavens can't seem to figure out the Diamondbacks. They hit .250 as a team, last in the National League. They were actually outscored by the opposition. On a roster in which Eric Byrnes ranks as a grizzled veteran, they give you exactly one postseason memory: Livan Hernandez's stellar pitching for the world champion Florida Marlins - 10 years ago.

Bruce Jenkins / San Francisco Chronicle

They've got decent, young pitching and a good chunk of free salary space. In the right hands they could make some marked improvements.

The bad news for them is the other 4 teams in the NLW are all pretty damn good and young so it's a tall hill to climb.

From tonight's live ESPN.com chat...

Joe (Chicago): Do you think that Barry Bondsless Giants are title contenders next year?

ROB NEYER: We have to see what they do this winter, but at the moment they're just barely fourth-place contenders.
