Allison was at the game with the supposed muscle pull. He saaid there was no hamstring pull, at most a bit of a turn of an ankle.
I agree that there is no way he goes to college if offerred 9th pick money. |
You guys worry too much. This is the way labor negotiations go. MLB sets the slot low. The agent waits until the end so that he is a hero. Everybody wins, especially Parker.

Byrnes said that Parker probably won't make his professional debut this season but instead will prepare for instructional league in the fall with an eye toward 2008. Parker will be introduced at Chase Field at a news conference next week.
The deal came together through face-to-face negotiations between Byrnes and his staff and Parker's representative, Larry Reynolds, who flew to Phoenix for meetings at Chase Field.
"It was pretty unusual but pretty helpful," Byrnes said.
Reynolds, who also represents Diamondbacks outfielder Justin Upton, said the relationship he developed with Byrnes during the Upton negotiations from early last year were "definitely helpful."
"The Diamondbacks get a great talent and a great kid," Reynolds said. "And Jarrod is going to benefit from playing in an organization that knows how to development talent and that is not afraid to move (promote) players, regardless of how old they are."

"This is an exciting day for all of us," said general manager Josh Byrnes. "Any time you draft a player and bring him in here, we get excited about the future."
The right-hander out of Norwell (Ind.) High School received a $2.1 million signing bonus. He was named the Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year after going 12-0 with a 0.10 ERA and 116 strikeouts in 70 innings.
The 6-foot-2, 175-pounder, who has drawn comparisons to the Astros' Roy Oswalt, has tried to take inspiration from another right-hander that is not big in stature but has had Major League success.
"I think I've tried to model myself after Tim Lincecum this year," said the 18-year-old. "He's another supposedly undersized righty."

No. 1 draft pick Jarrod Parker, introduced at a news conference Monday, will report to Missoula of the Pioneer League today to begin his assimilation into the team’s system.
Parker, listed at 6-foot-2, compares his skills to that of San Francisco’s Tim Lincecum, the 10th player taken in the 2006 draft. Parker was taken No. 9 this season.
“He’s a six-foot (5-11), hard-throwing right-hander,” said Parker, whose fastball has been clocked at 98-99 mph this spring. “Supposedly an undersized right-hander.”
Six-foot Roy Oswalt and 6-1 Jake Peavy also have a similar body type.
And do the D-Backs have another Micah Owings?
Parker, 12-0 with an 0.10 ERA for Norwell High in Bluffton, Ind., pitched six shutout innings and had two hits, including a two-run home run, in winning the Class 3A state championship game.

Im really hopin this kid can harness those 2nd and 3rd pitches.
Although this staff shows otherwise, in our park we really need either velocity or sink. So if he can dial it up to 98 and cruise at 93, we need him to pan out. Somebody teach that kid how to throw a changeup and splitter/sinker.

Webby should. lol. Actually, if we still have those two guys who taught Webb how to throw the sinking fastball. It was Mark Davis and someone else. Just can't recall his name right now.

The "someone else" was Minor League pitching coach Royal Clayton...

guys, the sinker is not really a teachable pitch. That is, there is no "sinker" grip. Its really just playing around with the two seam grip until the pitch starts dipping, even then, most people just don't have the natural arm slot, velocity, sling, etc. to make it sink.
Some people, like brandon webb, are blessed with natural movement. Notice how Webb's changeup sinks as much as his sinker does.
Think of all the MLB pitchers you know that have a curveball (a very teachable pitch), then think of all the MLB pitchers you know that have a sinker. |

After you come up with a list of guys with a sinker, take out the ones that don't have effective sinkers. You're left with about 10 guys |

The kid is going to move quickly through the system

Nice to see you: D-backs first-round pick Jarrod Parker saw his first game action since signing with the organization, when he pitched two innings on Thursday in an instructional-league game against the Rockies in Tucson.
The right-hander, who graduated from high school in June, registered between 93 and 97 mph with his fastball. After signing just before the Aug. 15 deadline, Parker spent a couple of weeks with the club's Rookie League team in Missoula, where he did some bullpen work, but did not get into a game.
"He looked really good," farm director A.J. Hinch said. "It was good to see him in a Diamondbacks uniform." |

I think all of thier games are against the Rockies. No offense to the Olde Pueblo, but only having one or two teams to play is a disadvantage for the Dbacks having their training facilites there. I think it is possible that we will not see nay more ST in Tucson at some time in the near future.

Tucson needs to make a push for 5 ST teams down there. It's the bare minimum of a critical mass for teams in a region going forward. There needs to be a push for a third ST stadium, hopefully for the relocated AAA team downtown, and attracting two more teams joining the Rockies, Diamondbacks, and Reds. I figure all teams in Florida are poachable, and given the development regarding Glendale attracting CWS, there's no reason for Tucson not to try to steal the A's and Brewers. They have shitty parks and accommodations, and could be persuaded to move and join a 5-team Cactus League South division.

The Reds still train in Florida, and they aren't moving.

No more teams to Arizona.
I have to have enough teams in Florida so I can avoid the Yankee and Red Sox crowds for a week when I go..... |
