People seem to not like it when I counsel tempered expecations. Remember the firestorm I caused over Upton back in June? Wink

IMO, the only question mark is Drew. I'm sure Quentin and Young will take their walks just fine. I couldn't care less about strikeouts as long as a player takes his walks and has power (read: not '06 Tracy).

Dude....all I said was SHOW me, and stop guaranteeing he is going to be the next A-Rod-Griffey. For a crowd that is supposed to be into objective analysis, and performance data, some of you seem awful willing to ignore the playing record and just go by the scouts when it's conveinent Wink

Upton will be fine. I just don't know yet if he is going to be a hall of famer.

As for CHris Young.....I always liked him dude, I just didn't see his bb/k ratio developing THIS quickly......you did. Kudos.

shoewiz, I'm just teasing you... you get so touchy--and I haven't even brought up the shawn green bet yet Laughing

anyhow, I am a big fan of statistics, sure. I am just A LOT more willing to listen to what scouts have to say about guys who are still very young or very raw or still in the low minors where stats aren't always the end of it all...

and upton will be just fine. he will go to at least half a dozen all star games in a sedona red uniform...

I hope these kids show some improvement in this area over the next 10 games. But it may be too soon. Next years adjustment could be tougher than we are expecting if this area does not improve.

Code:

Player   At bats walks  K's
Drew      178     13     41
Young      60      6     11
Quentin   131     12     27
Totals    369     31     79

Q has, at times, been a little to aggressive but other times has shown patience at the plate.

For me Young is too new to rate in total. I have not seen enough of him to give me any concerns.

As far as Drew goes...“Tell your statistics, to shut up.” Wink

Drew is doing a fine job and consistently taking the outside stuff to LF. It seems that his weakness so far has been the movement on the ML breaking stuff that seems to account for most of his Ks. He's missing them by a smaller margin as time goes by.

I'm more concerned about his ability to stay healthy.
