Somehow I missed (or forgot) the part where Billy Crystal became part-owner of the Diamondbacks.

A: It's not a big stake. It's little steak tidbits we have with the Diamondbacks. Scheduling has been tough, but I do follow them, I do root for them. It was just tough during that (2001) World Series, that's all. It was impossible. I was in Phoenix the first two games, and they were booing me because I was sitting around the Yankees. People were very hostile, but dry.
Q: It was a dry hostile?
A: Yeah, a dry hostile. And my wife turns to me and says, "Honey, we're beating us."
Crystal was one the original (or close to it) owners. IIRC, there were a couple atheletes as owners (Danny Manning?) and local businesses. I think most were bought out as the losses mounted and scrutiny was to be avoided.
